Fisette, Hynes, Tejada Agree to Stop Raiding General Fund Accounts for Streetcars

Hey Yupette,

I watched the latest County Board streetcar battle on my laptop after work last night.

So turns out that Jay Fisette, Mary Hynes, and Walter Tejada were massively raiding the General Obligation accounts to fund their streetcar activities, to the tune of (at least) hundreds of thousands of dollars. After County Manager Donnellan repeatedly stated that the County wasn't using, and wasn't going to use, a dime from the General Fund for streetcars.

After listening to Libby Garvey describe the activities of County employees who have been drafted by Barbara Donnellan for streetcar-related activities I have to wonder what kind of accounting system (if any) Barbara uses to track who does what and when in County Government. Internal Auditor? Looks like the County needs a entire division devoted to internal audits..

So, now the County Board voted 5-0 to stop spending funds from the General Fund for streetcars it will be interesting to see how the County Manager tracks the source or sources of funds that are being spent on streetcars.

Thank you for this blog. I have seen photo after photo of the mayhem streetcars and streetcar tracks are causing in Toronto. Has anyone on either side of the streetcar debate here calculated the costs (human and monetary) a Pike streetcar system would impose on Arlington as the result of accidents?

Anyone else read the Post's report about VDOT wanting to fund a comprehensive transit system throughout NOVA, including BRT outside the Beltway? So why not save the taxpayers about $3 billion by making NOVA all BRT, inside and outside the Beltway, including dedicated BRT lanes on the shoulders of I-66 to DC?

We should absolutely be assessing the effect of streetcar accidents on the viability of a Pike streetcar system.

How many bicyclists would be hurt or killed by streetcars and streetcar tracks every year on the Pike if this stupidity goes forward?

How much from the General Account Funds have they already ripped off?

Arlington Taxpayers, Residents, Voters - Do the photos we are being shown on this blog (thank you Cindy) indicate to anyone besides me that there is something VERY WRONG with wanting a shared-street streetcar system on Colmumbia Pike?

Anon., BRT throughout NOVA would violate the mega deals the VIP Politricksters have made with the REITs.

I am also in favor of a comprehensive BRT System throughout Northern Virgnia

I hope the f-ing County Government pirates who are ripping off Arlington taxpayers to provide corporate welfare benefits to their corporate cronies are going to be held accountable.

All these streetcar accidents in Toronto, and we don't know how many bicyclists are being hurt from encountering the tracks at acute angles.

County Board Majority doesn't care about anything but packing as many people and vehicles into this tiny county as it can.

Stay tuned to the fireworks on July 24th over the consent agenda items that were pulled on July 19th.

Arlington's bicycle enthusiasts should be furious. There is NO DOUBT that a shared-street streetcar systems will cause many deaths and injuries. How many photos from Toronto does it take to convince anyone?

How about --- dozens of ambulance-chasing lawyers who will sue the County's a$$ off for any and all streetcar accidents?

Arlington Democrats are worried about guns? Streetcars and streetcar tracks will kill and hurt hundreds every year along Columbia Pike.
