Donnellan Promises Streetcar Financing Plan to County Board by Mid-July

Hey, Yupette,

Another County Board-County Manager 2015-2024 CIP Work Session this afternoon. More from County Staff about VERY expensive infrastructure expenditures in the works: For Environment, Water, Wastewater, IT, Public Service.

As usual, Barbara Donnellan wasn't fazed at all. Told the County Board to have their CIP markups prepared by mid-July and she'd have her Streetcar financing plan in place the same time.

How Arlington taxpayers are going to afford a streetcar system and pay for new schools and expensive public infrastructure is something that had several County Government insiders in the County Board Room wondering. But I guess we'll find out in about 3 weeks.

2100 too

I have researched some of the line items the County will purchase in the 2015-2024 CIP. They are the most expensive you can buy and obtained from a single source without competitive bids.

This is why we need an independent internal auditor in county government ASAP.

Appears to me that the County can't fund the 2015-24 CIP, needs of the school system, and build a $585 million streetcar system.

What gets thrown under the streetcar? Artisphere? Aquatic Center? Street paving?

Good news! We just found out the entire county communication staff is on vacation, so we were finally able to get around the censors and publish a photo of the Toronto streetcar accident and the Las Vegas enhanced bus.

$cott McCaffrey was thinking about publishing the photo too but didn't want to cough up the Sun Gazette's monthly donut budget to buy it.

You better link to the ARLnow article every day for the next week! To license the Toronto photo $cott had to sacrifice one of the craft beer kegs for our upcoming hipster millennial rager. Noted Arlington party animal Mary Hynes is going to be super bummed!

If you post anything to ArlNow that denigrates the status quo you will not be allowed to post anything more to ArlNow.

Consequently, ArlNow has become a collection of insipid remarks and rejoinders by 'community leaders'.

Here's a 4-year old video of the Vegas BRT that's been censored repeatedly by the local media:

The County's Public Information Office and AVN are deeply mired in misappropriation. They continually producing public information features (at taxpayer expense) for non-profits and for-profits that for-profits and non-profits should be producing themselves.

Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors to $cott McCaffrey: "Don't even THINK about printing anything about BRTs or you are off the Board".

McCaffrey is visiting Philadelphia and should check out how Philly is replacing streetcars with buses and BRT.

What is it with cities that have had streetcars for over 100 years wanting to relace them?

How many news items are published by the media as-written by County employees?

Donnellan is hiding the true cost of infrastructure the County would purchase in the 10-year CIP. So the basics like street paving will be thrown under the streetcar.
