Arlington Police Ignore Bad Behavior by Rolling Thunder

Hey, Yupette,

I live in Lyon Park and Rolling Thunder has arrived in Clarendon. It's obvious that the Arlington Police Department is ignoring bad behavior by Rolling Thunder's bikers. Like noise from Harleys with no mufflers (straight through pipes). Like a massive amount of reckless driving by the bikers, including several riding on the sidewalk. Like groups of bikers intimidating motorists. Nice cool night last night and of course I had to keep the windows closed and a/c on. Saw the complaints about Rolling Thunder on the Sun Gazette blog, so it's not just me and my neighbors. Apparently the Arlington Police could care less. Rolling Thunder is more overtime for them, like the pub crawls.

Thanks for your blog.

Rob, Lyon Park

Rob, and others, don't publicly complain about Rolling Thunder. It will just get you put on the ACPD 'neighborhood nuisance' list.

No big secret, Arlington has a cowboy police department that thrives on bad behavior by young members of minority groups (African Americans and Latinos). Other groups like Rolling Thunder are 'off limits'.

Rolling Thunder is another insipid group with good PR that gets to do its thing at our expense.

Why don't the New Urbanists who control everything here just state the reality that Rolling Thunder is incompatible with New Urbanism.

Want to know how corrupt this event has become? Local police can't arrest Rolling Thunder bikers for stuff like reckless driving because they might be arresting some motorcycle cop from some place like Philadelphia riding his personal street-illegal Harley.

Plus, local police get overtime for chaperoning Rolling Thunder.

I live in a condo in Ballston and I'm not going to get any sleep tonight even with the A/C on and windows closed.

Agree. Another group that can do as it pleases because it has good PR and law enforcement is part of the program.

Supposing the Pike streetcar gets built....how many accidents would the tracks cause, especially if the tracks were wet?

Street illegal bikes are trailered in for the event, including those owned by law enforcement.

Also, illegal exhausts are installed just for Rolling Thunder.

ACPD doesn't live in Arlington and doesn't care. Arlington is just a paycheck.

Hope most of the bikers who live in VA-MD-PA-DE-NJ will leave today.

Same Arlington Police Department that spends hundreds of person-hours every year staking out the skateboard park.

About a dozen bikers hurt in accidents so far.

A woman pedestrian was struck by a bicyclist last night and apparently was badly injured.

Prediction: County will crash-and-burn socially, economically, and politically in about 5-7 years.

Yes, when the people who are in charge and making the decisions now are retired or have moved on.

I may as well walk over to the I-395 overpass near my home to watch, since they kept me up the past two nights.

Hey, were those loud firecrackers or gunshots heard in 22206 last night?

Anonymous said...

Sounded like gunshots from a magnum handgun.

Hey, I think they left town...most of them anyway. Turning off the A/C. Opening the windows.

If they hurt someone...they will be held responsible. Sorry you whiney babies lost a bit if sleep because of the noise. I imagine these war heroes never lost any sleep putting their rear ends on the lines for you cry babies to exercise your freedom of speech to complain about it. Suck it up cupcakes. It's only for a few days. Smh!

Rolling Thunder is a bunch of Harleytards who only care about making noise. What other reason for so many illegal exhaust pipes on so many Harleys??

I think I know why the 'authorities' allow Rolling Thunder to do its thing. They're a great source of donor organs.

Wash Post today: In 2011, 4,612 motorcyclists died in accidents, 1,397 were drunk, and 1,702 weren't wearing helmets.

They get to wake the dead in Arlington Cemetery and then hopefully go home.

Not a good idea to be anywhere near the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery today if you can avoid it, it's gonna be a total mess.

Anonymous said...

Donna, where do you think the people who work at the Pentagon live?

Earth to Rolling Thunder. Have the person sitting behind you on your Harley look to the left and right as you roar down I-66 and I-395 and the other major roads inside the Beltway and check out the number of homes, apartments buildings, and condos he or she sees.

Time to dump 'Smart Growth' so-called 'planning' which is packing as many people and activities as possible into one tiny county.

Boo Hoo. Party's almost over. Rolling Thunder "Law Enforcement" have to ride or trailer their Harleys back to Nowheresville and go back to staking out the town skateboard park.

Same 65 year olds who 45 years ago, when they were 20, drove around Army bases in their Camaros with "FTA" painted on the rear windows.

Seen on another blog - Doubtful that H-D Board of Directors would ride their Harleys through their exclusive neighborhoods out of consideration for their neighbors.

Upscale Harley owners don't ride their bikes in their own upscale neighborhoods, they trailer their bikes and ride them in our neighborhoods.

Arlington Police get to use all the overtime their going to earn this holiday for ---- down payment on a new Harley.

Second the idea to dump "Smart Growth".

Only time anything changes in Arlington is when the status quo gets completely out-of-control.

Anonymous said...

County will have to get totally messed up before things change.

It's over...Thank God.
