Arlington Cinco de Mayo 2014 - Massive 4-Day Pub Crawl

Hello, Yupette,

I wondered what Cinco de Mayo is all about historically. So I checked it out on Wiki.

How has the commemoration of a battle where an out-numbered Mexican Army defeated an invading French expeditionary force in 1862 become another excuse for the consumption of massive quantities of alcohol in Arlington Virginia? This battle is only celebrated by Mexicans in the State of Puebla where it occurred.

This year the Cinco de Mayo pub crawl starts tomorrow afternoon and lasts until Monday night. Whomever stated that bars and restaurants are one of the two growth industries in Arlington, along with new and used vehicle sales, is correct. From my perspective, as a Lyon Village homeowner, bars and restaurants are THE growth industry in Arlington.

What happened to our County? Anything resembling a suburban quality of life is fast disappearing. What can we do about it?

You can vote for John Vihstadt in November.

Larry, your neighbors have been complaining to Mary Hynes for years about the bar crawls. She's another do-nothing Democrat, except for approving more mixed-use development with more bars.

Haven't you heard? Arlington's residential neighborhoods are nothing but 'redevelopment opportunities' for out-of-state REITs, facilitated by County Staff who don't live in our County.

Also, check out who own Arlington's bars and restaurants and where they live.

Larry, why don't you ask your neighbor, Senator Barbara Favola to sponsor legislation in the General Assembly to regulate pub crawls?

I have several Mexican friends. September is a big patriotic month for Mexicans. Cinco de mayo is a minor holiday. We use it as an excuse to drink.

Well, yeah, but does everyone between 16 and 30 have to get totally plastered for four days?

Give us a break. What next? Christmas Pub Crawl?

Time for Hynes, Fisette, and Tejada to join Zimmy at Dumb Growth America.

Oh, OK, September Mexican Patriotic Pub Crawl right just after the Labor Day Pub crawl.

Anonymous said...

Second the motion for Hynes, Fisette, and Tejada to retire and join Zimmy.

Look Out Clarendon...good pub crawl weather this weekend.

Anonymous said...

Favola and Hynes are largely responsible for making Clarendon the mess it is.

I blame Walter Tejada, who has not done good things for the Latino/Latina community in Arlington over the past decade.

You have to go back 50 years to see a group that suffers more discrimination than Arlington Latinos and Latinas today.

Anonymous said...

Walter Tejada immigrated to America from El Salvador, not Mexico.

Anonymous said...

How many who immigrated from Mexico and Central America decades ago are among the County's decision makers? What about their children who were born here and grew up here?

Last weekend the police stood around watching Springfest in Shirlington. Except when it looked like one yupster was going to punch another yupster.

So if you are drunk but act and appear more or less sober they aren't going to bother you.

Hey, Y'all, police were doing DUI traffic stops after the bars closed last night...

Mega Crawl's over here, corner of Wilson and North Highland.

Anonymous said...

Not advisable to climb into your vehicle parked on Wilson or Clarendon at 2:30 AM if you have had more than a few and lay down rubber.

Who was that woman who was freaking out last night after the cops stopped her vehicle?

Anonymous said...

Where have we seen this before? Georgetown circa 1973?

Anonymous said...

Many fights broke out last night. Cops were going from one place to another breaking them up.

Anonymous said...

Police could not handle all the assaults and groups fighting.

Anonymous said...

There was a big fight in Clarendon and another off of South Glebe Road.

Anonymous said...

They've been finding people who drank themselves into a state of oblivion last night all this morning.

According to the Yupsters who run ArlNow this weekend has been a typical holiday pub crawl.

Anonymous said...

NOT a typical holiday weekend pub crawl !

Anonymous said...

ArlNow is of, by, and for yupster-hipster a-holes.

Anonymous said...

Many more fights and assaults yesterday.

Happy 'Drinko de Mayo'.

There apparently was no consideration by the bars and restaurants who were crawl sponsors for people who live in the B-R corridor who wanted peace and quiet on Sunday.

Last night of this yuptard s---. We have a 2-week respite before Taste of Arlington.

Anonymous said...

The REITs who own the buildings where the bars and restaurants are located, the bar and restaurant owners, and the yupster-hipster media like ArlNow that advertise and promote this drunk and disorderly behavior are laughing all the way to the bank.

Read the Post's Weekend Section lately?

Anonymous said...

County needs the meals tax and sales tax to fund the Pike and Crystal City streetcars.

Vote for John Vihstadt in November.

Washington Post? Same Post that tells everybody to go out and party in the Style and Weekend seconds and complains about dysfunctional behavior in the news sections?

Anonymous said...

Post promotes partying then runs an big news article today about the parties getting out of control? Duh.
