U.S. Army Rushes Food Assistance to Avert Hunger Crisis in Arlington

Hi Yupette,

We appreciate your features about the extravagant tax-borrow-spend programs and policies of Arlington County Government. Turns out there IS a serious and significant hunger crisis in Arlington, caused by  massive gentrification, tax increases, no increase in the minimum wage, and cuts in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) assistance and the end of long term unemployment insurance orchestrated by Tea Party Members of Congress. So hundreds more families are seeking food assistance every week. Added to the 10% of Arlington residents (about 33,000) who already receive some kind of food assistance.

What to do? Call out the U.S. Army to help deliver food to hungry Americans to avert a hunger crisis where thousands of residents in one of the wealthiest counties in the United States are facing prolonged malnutrition.

Meanwhile, it's Gala season for Arlington's Elite, including the four members of the Arlington Board of Supervisors who are enjoying being 'comped' with thousands of dollars in free tickets to various local extravaganzas where they make gentrification redevelopment and tax-borrow-spend luxury infrastructure deals with their corporate and non-profit cronies.

Anyway, nice to know that the Pentagon is capable of delivering a few hundred pounds of food to hungry Americans after spending about $5 Trillion since 9-11-01 helping people in the Third World.

Number of families seeking food assistance from the Arlington Food Assistance Center has skyrocketed over the past 6 months.

Many more families are seeking food assistance from churches and other non-profits.

Food stamp (SNAP) usage by members of the U.S. Armed Forces has quadrupled since 2006.

Don't expect any sympathy from the Wa$hingon Po$t and its owner, Jeff Bezo$. His employees who work at Amazon warehouses typically earn $11 per hour.

You Americans always want to 'help' everyone else. You were kicked out of Iraq and you are going to be kicked out of Afghanistan. Why don't you mind your own business and start helping the 100 million poor people in your own nation?

Hunger crisis in Arlington? No mystery to Democrats like Gentrification Jay who have completely controlled Arlington for the past 15 years.

Wa$ington Po$t is about right. Nothing there for anyone who makes less than $100,000 / year.

Arlington's had a hunger crisis for years. Rising rents, rising taxes and fees, increased cost of utilities, thousands of low-paying jobs with stagnant wages being created, affordable housing that's not affordable. Cuts in SNAP are pushing thousands to seek charity food assistance.

Yeah, with a population of 318 million and 100 million either poor or living on the edge you would think the USA would come to its senses and stop believing we can do everything for everyone everywhere.

Po$t wastes trainloads of paper and ink trying to figure out why poor and uneducated people living in an urban environment are dysfunctional. Duh.

Why do Arlington police officers all wear tactical semi-SWAT uniforms? To better intimidate Arlington's underclass.

Where are all the bicycle trails inside the Beltway? They connect one expensive luxury enclave with every other expensive luxury enclave.

Tea Party NeoCons pushed a cut in SNAP through Congress in return for more public assistance for wealthy welfare farmers and ranchers.

Your suburban street may never be plowed (love those his-and-hers SUVs) but God forbid that the bicycle trails don't get plowed so 39 or so members of Arlington's Bicycle Cult can ride to work the morning after a 6-inch snowfall.

Latest anti-hunger gimmick from AFAC is giving donated seed packets to backyard gardeners. AFAC is another charity, and has it's own Gala, called Spring Carnival, to be held at the Washington Golf and Country Club, of course.

I am sick and tired of these charities that run around trying to ameliorate the worst excesses of the capitalist system. Is it Socialism to be appalled that General Electric pays nothing in Federal taxes and has outsourced every job possible to the third world?

Whatever the centrist and left-of-center political parties and special interests may SAY, when push comes to shove they all go along with the program.

Only way the excesses of capitalism are even noticed by the media is when groups like the Occupy Movement take direct action.

Want to know how much the Pentagon has spent on camouflage combat clothing that doesn't camouflage? About $5 billion.

Arlington Free Clinic also ameliorates the worst excesses of capitalism (i.e., working people who, thanks to the Tea Party NeoCons, don't qualify for health insurance under the so-called Affordable Care Act) and also has a Gala.

If you're an E-4 Enlisted with 4 years of service you will earn just over Arlington's so-called 'living wage' in 2014.

Yupette, it's time for an IMMEDIATE and TOTAL moratorium on creating any more jobs in Arlington that don't pay at least 50% of Area Median Income, or about $52,000 per year.

Anonymous said...

Also, an immediate and total moratorium on any more "new urbanist" infill.

WHY is Economic Developing pitching food trucks, frozen yoghurt shops, more hospitality industry employment?

Anonymous said...

Does a majority of the Economic Development Commission even live in Arlington?

Serves the USA right for spending Trillions on fighting wars in the Third World. How many have there been since Ronald Reagan took office in 1981?

Anonymous said...

Which former Third World nation has cost the USA $1 Trillion to defend over the past 60 years and costs the USA at least $30 billion to defend every year? South Korea 1954-2014.

Also, a complete moratorium on any more social service non-profits in Arlington. We have more than enough already.

It's 15 degrees and snowing - everybody ride a bicycle to work said...

Biggest growth industry in Arlington? New and used motor vehicle sales in the Ballston-Rosslyn corridor.

Hunger crisis in Arlington? You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait until 2015 when residential assessments skyrocket and the C.B. spends every penny. While keeping the same residential tax rate, of course.

Bicycles are like handguns were 50 years ago. Almost totally unregulated.

Arlington County is primarily Democrats would you want to blame the Tea Party and Republican Party for the problems in Arlington County

Anonymous said...

Damn Tea Party wants to brainwash and exploit poor working people until there's another social revolution as occurred 50 years ago. What a bunch of a-holes.

Anonymous said...

What do you have against bicycles?

Anonymous said...

Bicycles are the latest Yuptard icon. Nothing wrong with that except their motto is 'safety last'. Their latest antic is running pedestrians off the sidewalks. Another bunch of a-holes we have to put up with.

Tea Party thinks no one works but them, no one is patriotic but them, no one has the right to protest but them, no one has ANY rights but them.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, and no one has the right in Florida to 'stand your ground' but them.

Especially not an unarmed African American teenager walking home and minding his own business.

Ru$h said it, they believe it, that settles it.

Tea Party are a bunch of Neo Nazis who wrap themselves in the American Flag.

Anonymous said...

I blame Obama or allowing this Tea Party $hit to happen. He should be imposing massive sanctions against U.S. corporations like General Electric for paying ZERO in Federal taxes, parking hundreds of billions offshore and outsourcing thousands of jobs to the third world.

The bikester behavior got out-of-control in NYC and Philly, and finally the police started patrolling on bicycles.
