Bikeshare Safety, An Oxymoron?

Hey Yupette,

What is it with the people who rent Bikeshare bicycles? No helmets, dark clothing, reckless behavior.

Yesterday I was brushed off the sidewalk on Washington Boulevard by a Bikeshare renter who ran a traffic light and zoomed up on the sidewalk through a curb cut. Talking on a cell phone.

What ever happened to the County's bicycle safety program?

Don't bother calling Capital Bikeshare, they will ignore you.

Worst are the tourists who have not ridden a bicycle in decades.

Thanks for this. I stay far away from Bikeshare bicyclists when I can.

Bikeshare is another special interest run by local Democratic Party VIPs that gets special treatment from the Regime.

Arlington's so-called bicycle safety program is based on slogans.

Alexandria Bikeshare is worse, much worse. Old Town is infested by bar-hopping drunks on bicycles weekends April through October and especially weekends in summer when there are festivals in Old Town.

Expensive bicycles. Another yuptard fad like the big dog fad ten years ago?

I noticed that there were about zero bikesters commuting wherever when it rained hard last week. Can't get one's $1900 bicycle dirty and one's $500 bikester clothing wet.

Drunks on bicycles? Favorite mode of warm-weather bar-hopping for adult males living in urban areas who've has their driver's licenses suspended or revoked.

Thank you. I have had it with people riding bicycles at night wearing dark clothing, no reflectors, no lights, and running stop signs and traffic lights.

I'm not voting for either Clement or Fisette, based on their total indifference to traffic safety, pedestrian safety, bicycle safety, parking, infill, and other quality-of-life issues.

No one on the ballot cares about quality-of-life issues. They all cater to the wants of developers, have you noticed?

FYI - Capital Bikeshare now tells its customers to wear helmets and not ride recklessly.

Anonymous said...

Yes, and the NRA tells gun owners to behave responsibly.

Arlington County's contract with Capital Bikeshare is corporate welfare at its worst.

Photos on Capital Bikeshare's Web pages of bicycle renters wearing helmets and obeying traffic ordinances are posed PR photos.

Fisette drives everywhere in his Prius. Clement begs rides for her and her bicycle from her fellow Greens.

What a wonderful transportation system - maniacs on racing bicycles ignoring traffic lights, stop signs, and speed limits, bicycle commuters who only ride during good weather, and bikeshare tourists who do whatever they please whenever and wherever they please.

There was a bicycle-motor vehicle accident over the weekend and about 7 police, fire and EMS units responded. That's the only time I've seen the "authorities" concerned.

Anyone ever seen anything about bicycle safety in the local media?

More arrogant jerks for the adult population to endure. I gotta wonder how many are Members of Congress and their staffs.

Wonderful bicycle transportation system augments the wonderful 2-track Metrorail transportation system.

That's what we get for re-electing incumbents.

I called Alta Bikeshare in Portland (corporate owner of Capital Bikeshare). Arrogant snobs.

What can you expect from five urban village idiots and their not-so-dumb non-resident county staff who don't want THEIR upscale neighborhoods in Fairfax County "Clarendoned".

Latest I heard the Fairfax County biketards will be restricted to doing their bikester thing in and around beautiful Tysons.

How many gun related deaths and injuries occur in Arlington every year? How many bicycle related deaths and injuries occur in Arlington every year?

More intrusive and obnoxious special interest infrastructure designed by non-residents for non-residents, rubber-stamped by a County Board whose members are gonna be outta here in five years.
