Portland, SF, Toronto, Boston Bicyclists Fear Streetcars, Tracks

Hello Yupette,

I was traveling to the West Coast last week. Streetcar accidents and accidents from tires slipping along streetcar tracks are a big topic of conversation among bicyclists in Portland. Something to think about when the streetcar is discussed here. Also, there are quite a few accidents involving streetcars and motor vehicles in San Francisco. I've also visited Boston and Toronto on business recently. Same thing there. Why isn't that being discussed here?

Regards,

Ron

Ron, same reason Arlington's bicyclists don't demand that Arlington's arterials be repaved. They're special interest Zimmercrats who go along with Zimmy's streetcar program in return for millions of tax dollars for their pet projects.....like painting bike lane markings on crumbling pavement

Budget hearings are tomorrow and Wednesday. Sign up to speak. Call 228-3130. Demand that Arlington's third world streets be repaved ---- A S A P.

Ron, when streetcars hit other streetcars, or some object with a considerable mass, like a truck, lots of streetcar passengers get injured.

I understand Jay Fisette promised the bicycle groups a velodrome at the Long Bridge site.

Yupette, here's the link to a photo of a streetcar-streetcar crash where lots of passengers were injured.

Yupette, over the past 5 years there have been HUNDREDS of streetcar crashes in San Francisco.

Why was there no analysis of the safety risks of streetcars vs. buses on the Pike?

I am 73 and lived in Georgetown 50 years ago. Streetcars were removed from service in D.C. for a couple of very good reasons. Accidents were one reason.

WMATA's alterntives analysis didn't mention safety issues. Why not?

Special interest groups are being ORDERED to provide election volunteers to Libby Garvey, OR ELSE.

It's a corrupt regime. Happens every election. Has for the past decade.

What is the Web site WMATA is using to elicit comments about transportation on the Pike?

Check out D.C. streetscape photos from 60 years ago. See any bicycles on the streets?

Read the Post Metro Section today? WMATA is corrupt and cannot be trusted.

No matter who is hurt or killed by the stupid streetcar they could care less. It's all about development and money.

Are they the same WMATA transportation planners who went on a gift card binge using WMATA's $$$$?

Doesn't WMATA have auditors and an inspector general?

I'm putting my bicycle in storage until Arlington's streets are paved.

Washington Post reporter was handed a copy of this AY posting last night at the County Board meeting.

Zimmerman ignored serious safety issues when he was on WMATA's board of directors. The track maintenance money went for cosmetics like LED signs.

"Employees in the planning department at Metro have used agency credit cards to buy camcorders, gift cards, Kindle e-readers and even a set of designer earbuds, according to an investigation by the transit authority's inspector general last year that found extensive abuse".
