Odor of Burning Jet Fuel 'Overpowering' at Long Bridge Park

Hello, Yupette,

I visited Long Bridge Park on Christmas day and the odor of burning jet fuel (kerosene) was overpowering. Not hard to determine where the kerosene odor was coming from - Reagan Airport. After 15 minutes I felt sick and left the park.

Returned to Long Bridge Park today. Same overpowering odor of burning kerosene. Does the County expect kids to play soccer in that environment?

As for the park itself, appears the County spent most of the $35 million Long Bridge Park has so far cost building mountains of of dirt upon which to construct 3 soccer fields, an overlook, and a parking lot.

To answer the question that was asked of the County Board...no there has not been an air quality assessment of Longbridge Park.

LOL...Boeing employees who use Longbridge Park will be breathing the exhaust from their own 737s, 757s, etc.

Then there's the Pentagon power plant, directly across 395 from the soccer fields...burns a LOT of fuel oil and natural gas to heat the Pentagon.

No Outdoor Smoking Allowed signs have been posted all over Longbridge Park.

The Pentagon power plant has experienced many problems with poor combustion of natural gas and fuel oil since the present heating system was installed about 18 years ago.

I would say the Pentagon power plant is more an environmental hazard than burning jet fuel because the power plant is just across 395 from the soccer fields and a lot of fossil fuel is consumed every day from October 1st to May 1st.

I am more worried about particulates from diesel and jet engine exhaust.

I'm voting for Audrey Clement for County Board...We don't need $200 million more spent on a cesspool of pollution...which is what Long Bridge Park is...

I'm also voting for Audrey Clement...Melissa Bondi and Kim Klinger are just a couple more urban village idiots in the Zimmy Crewe who are ruining Arlington with their extravagances.

Tell it to Arlington's "First Mommy"...Mary Hynes.

Is a 1960's vintage nuclear submarine buried under all that fill dirt?

If the County Board and School Board don't care about air quality in schools located adjacent to busy interstate highways why should they care about air pollution in Long Bridge Park?

Another reason not to vote for Libby Garvey.

The School System is buying into this recreation complex...the School Board is also to blame.

Another dozen acres of woodlands north of the present overlooks will be cut down and the land bulldozed for the aquatic center and soccer arena.
