Fed Up Citizens to County Board: Scrap the Pike Trolley and Artisphere - Pave Arlington's Crumbling Streets Instead !

Hello, Yupette,

I am totally disgusted with Zimmerman and his Groupies who put their own wants, special interests, and corporate cronies first on their priority list.

I own a bicycle and bicycle to work at least once a week.

People, our streets and roads are crumbling. They're a hazard to bicyclists and pedestrians and will soon be a hazard to motorists.

Where are our tax dollars going? Not on basic infrastructure maintenance and upgrades. Our taxes are being spent on sports, recreation, and entertainment projects promoted by Zimmerman, Fisette, Tejada, and Hynes. Latest from Fisette is another live theater to compete with the Artisphere. Latest from Tejada is a regulation indoor soccer field to be constructed at Long Bridge Park. And, according to County Transportation Staff, the projected cost of Zimmerman's Pike trolley has reached $300 million.

These four turkeys are going to meet tomorrow with their so-called County Manager (who told them when they hired her that she would never move to Arlington, no matter how much they paid her) to approve their '2012 Management and Planning Work Plan'. A plan for more trolleys, soccer fields, swimming pools, and live theater. Maybe 'Libby' will join them. After all, she went right along with Zimmy's plans for the Wakefield Recreation, Entertainment, Sports, and Remediation Center.

I own a mountain bike and I'm afraid to ride it on Washington Blvd and George Mason Drive.

Why are they telling everyone to ride a bicycle? The streets are a mess.

The finally got around to replacing the water main on Four Mile Run Dr., after the old water main had so many patches it looked like the pavement on Four Mile Run Drive.

Where are Zimmerman's bicycle Groupies when it comes to infrastructure and safety issues? Being videoed yet again telling everyone to bike everywhere by Zimmerman's PR Groupies at AVN.

Zimmerman's bicycle Groupies are responsible for the County placing 'we own the right lane' markings on crumbling arterials that will have to be repaved soon, $300 million trolley or no trolley.

Did someone mention Libby Garvey? The streets in her own community, Fairlington, are crumbling, Fairlington has terrible street lighting, and the street trees are so decrepit that big rotten branches are falling on sidewalks on windy days.

Oh, King Street and Quaker Lane (both state roads) needed repaving 5 years ago. Delegate Englin is in Richmond trying to get marijuana legalized and Senator Ebbin is in Richmond trying to get gay marriage legalized.

Most dangerous street in Arlington for bicyclists? S 31st Street hill. Even the speed tables are crumbling.

They wonder why the Occupy groups got started. No surprise. Our so-called elected leaders don't want to fund infrastructure, create employment, and provide basic services to a nation that's growing in population by 3 million a year and a state with a 90,000 per year population growth.

Cancel the trolley, pave the streets, roads, bicycle trails. Fund more bus service across the County.

I was at the groundbreaking for the Wakefield Sports-Recreation-Entertainment-Community Center last year. The word 'education' was not mentioned once by any speaker. The New Wakefield will be a 'focus' school. The focus will be on socialization through sports and student activities. Thank You Chris Zimmerman and Libby Garvey. :-(

The County Board fast-tracked the renovation of the Fairlington Community Center and ignored decades of complaints about wastewater system back-ups in Libby's and Paulie Ferguson's own Fairlington neighborhood until Fairlington residents bitterly complained about the back-ups a couple years ago when the County Board conducted a walk-through town meeting in Fairlington.

Zimmerman is a former "Soccer Dad of the Year" finalist. Mark Kelly is a current "Soccer Dad of the Year" finalist.

Fairlington Residents - FYI more than 60% of the users of the Fairlington Community Center aren't Arlington residents.

What they say: Buy a bicycle and ride it everywhere all year long. What they do: Don't plow the streets when it snows, let the streets crumble, build more parking for SUVs.

Why don't you ask Terron Sims how the U.S. taxpayers poured billions into massively upgrading the public infrastructure of Baghdad.

The brick sidewalk paving is deteriorating in Ballston. How much is that gonna cost to repair?

The parties responsible for designing, approving, and constructing your condo or townhouse community - County Staff who don't live in the County, out-of-state Developer, Developer's out-of-state Law Firm - will be happy to pay for renovating the brick sidewalk in front of your condo or townhouse.

Brick paver sidewalks. Another dumb growth idea promoted by Zimmerman and Fisette. They only stopped doing it because the disabled community threatened to sue them for violating the ADA.

Anonymous said...

Ask Vornado how much it's spending to renovate the brick sidewalks covering Courthouse Plaza.

It wasn't Zimmy who thought up installing brick sidewalks everywhere, it was the Great Leader who ran the People's Republic before Zimmy became Great Leader - Al Eisenberg.

I asked Al about that recently. He said he honestly couldn't remember.

Streets and roads are also crumbling in Alexandria. City Council is only concerned about deals with developers.

Anonymous said...

Why is the bicycle lobby not going after the County Board, Alexandria City Council, and VDOT over this issue?

Anonymous said...

Bicycle Lobby appears to only be concerned about getting laws passed that allows biketards to legally run traffic lights and stop signs.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of 'law enforcement' have you seen what the Arlington police are up to? Engaged in a massive search for a woman who robbed a drug dealer during a drug deal; engaged in a another massive search for a guy who who got into an altercation with a female escort in a hotel room.

Libby Garvey has never been concerned about her own community. She let Abingdon School become a de facto recreation center before SOLs came along and stopped that. She lets ACDC ward heelers run the civic association as they please. Same ACDC ward heelers who staff her political campaigns. She would vote with Zimmerman at least 90% of the time.

Anonymous said...

I agree that Libby would vote with Zimmerman. BTW, they put lots of expensive stuff on the consent agenda at County Board meetings, so there is no debate unless some concerned citizen pulls the item.

Libby is all talk. She ignored the growth in the student population and now that the schools (in N. Arlington, at least) are becoming seriously overcrowded she wants to build schools on whatever green space isn't already paved or built up.

Anonymous said...

Simple solution to potential loss of "green space" because of the need for new classrooms - build the new classrooms on existing school parking lots.

Anonymous said...

Libby can't do that, just as she can't tell County employees who live in PW County to enroll their kids in PW schools.

Anonymous said...

She can't even stop the intra-County cheating - S. Arlington parents who lie to get their kids into W-L and Yorktown.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, and when push comes to shove, know why nothing changes? The soccer Moms and soccer Dads who complain in private go right along with Libby. Gotta have little Buffy playing on a synthetic surface, don't rock the boat.

Anonymous said...

Worst street lighting in Arlington is in Libby's neighborhood...light is blocked by trees. Never mind, Fairlington's athletic fields are getting brand new state-of-the art dark sky lighting.

What a charade. Libby will vote with Zimmy 90% of the time on all the important issues. Important to Zimmy, that is. On the nickel and dime stuff (e.g., restaurant music) she will vote against Zimmy. This will be seen by the sheeple as a huge change on the County Board.

No brainer. Paid blogs are all about more ad $$$ from local businesses.
