'First Responders' Looking for Another 9-11, Don't Want to Cope With Natural Disasters

Hello, Ms. Yupette,

I finally retired from the Arlington Fire Department this year.

We've just had an earthquake that caused damage around the region. Earthquakes on the East Coast aren't even on disaster preparedness organizations' radar.

Neither are the three natural disasters that can cause serious infrastructure damage, loss of life, and human misery. They are: tornadoes, hurricanes and the concurrent damage caused by wind and flooding, and prolonged loss of electric power in winter caused by ice storms.

What the cowboys who run Arlington's emergency preparedness organizations are looking for is another 9-11 attack on the Pentagon. That just ain't gonna happen.

What am I doing to avoid the bad stuff that will happen from the hurricane that's approaching? Going on vacation. Several members of my immediate family live in central Pennsylvania. Time for a visit. Taking the perishable food from my refrigerator with me in coolers. Returning next week. Enjoy the hurricane.

Retired Firefighter

Yeah, the entire 'first responder' thing always seemed to me to be a bunch of Deputy Dawgs who are out to catch 'Terrorists'.

Awesome post. We've spent ten years and a trillion dollars fighting a domestic 'war on terror'. No end in sight. Let's keep empowering despots like Assad, Mubarak, and Ghadaffi so we can wage a 'war on terror' against their enslaved citizens who rebel.

Hmmm...anyone else notice what the Libyan rebels are finding in Ghadaffi's tunnels under Tripoli? Secure telephones connected to the U.S. State Department.

Look, Hillary, I don't give a rat's ass what the CIA is reporting about the potential for unrest in Libya, Syria, and Egypt. Mummhar, Bashar, and Hosni are our friends. Got it?

The "Responders" are all brain dead. They've been focused for 10 years on Bin Laden attacking the Pentagon. This hurricane is coming right up the Bay, Delaware River, Hudson River.

Leave NOW. Go camping in Ohio for 4 days.

Anyone else notice the yellow tape around the White House the other day? I wonder if the exterior walls are cracked from the earthquake.

Speaking of leaving to go camping this weekend, beats me why so many retired people hang around here during December, January, and February.

Yellow tape around the White House? That was because there was cracking in the secret tunnel to Ghadaffi's compound in Tripoli.

When the revolt began in Libya the U.S. embassy staff was evacuated...140 diplomats.

USDOS, it takes lots of people in an embassy to keep track of the secret cash going to 535 Members of Congress.

Guys, you are hilarious, because this blog is so close to the truth.

I don't keep much food in my refrigerator and freezer in August. Had to toss out too much food the last time the power went out for a couple days last hurricane..

I wonder how many diplomatic documents the Libyan rebels will discover.

I heard a rumor that Bin Laden is dead.

You didn't have to visit Ohio, Charlottesville is far enough away. Oh, probably not a good idea this weekend, school is starting.

Has the power gone off anywhere in Arlington County? How much will this non-event cost Arlington taxpayers?

Dude, if you lose power when the wind's blowing 35 mph, you need a new power company.

Four Mile Run flooded? Zimmy says there's plenty of capacity left for storm water when the Pike is redeveloped.

The amateur radio 'first responders' were drinking beer and yakking on their ham radios yesterday about the power being out in their neighborhoods because the trees near power lines don't get trimmed.

Power was on all during the storm and only leaves and twigs on the ground. Wind could not have been over 35 mph.

Yes, Four Mile Run, aka Zimmy Creek, was flooded last night.

Agree about Dominion and trees. If you can't see daylight through the tree the tree needs to be trimmed.

Where are the County's tree trimming funds going? Probably to the Artisphere.

Tree trimming funds are going to emergency responders for state-of-the-art radios so they can talk about tree limbs down on power lines.

Exactly what the retired firefighter who posted this thread said, the 'first responders' are looking for bad things to happen, not working to prevent bad things from happening.

Sheesh, why can these guys take a 'tree census' in their own neighborhoods? I guess because they're too fat, stupid, and lazy.

Now is the time to lease a winter apartment, condo, or home in the no snow-ice-sleet-freezing rain zone. Avoid the November rush.

First responders also yak about blizzards in winter over their amateur radio transceivers.

First responders also bitch about their streets not being plowed in the winter.
