1 Billion Non-Biodegradable Trash Bags to Landfills from Arlington Annually?

Hello,

I have seen the green this and green that all over Arlington the past couple of years. But did you ever try to figure out how many non-biodegradable trash bags are being sent to landfills from Arlington every year? A lot. Maybe as many as a billion trash bags of all sizes (from wastepaper basket liners to yard waste bags). How many of these trash bags are biodegradable? Almost none. It's difficult to even find a retail store that sells biodegradable kitchen trash bags in Arlington. I had to order the biodegradable kitchen trash bags for my home from the Internet. They are not cheap, which is probably why they aren't widely available.

If Mr. Fisette is so concerned about the environment maybe he can find an economical source of biodegradable trash bags for use in County offices, including the County Board offices.

Susan, Jay will form a committee and you will see a report in 2014.

If we can't implement small but important improvements will we ever see stuff like on-site renewable energy in Arlington County?

Audrey Clement is correct..this supposedly "Green" county is falling way behind the rest of the world when it comes to protecting the environment.

Even if households put out one kitchen trash bag of trash every other day, that's still lots of kitchen trash bags being used every year.

County Board offices use black polyethylene trash bags as do all the offices at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.

That's why I'm voting for Audrey Clement. When it comes to the environment it's not a big charette, pronounced "charade", she gets it.

You can buy biodegradable bags at large organic foods supermarkets.

How did this get by Fisette's environmental committee to the extent that Jay and the other County Board members and everyone else at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. are disposing of trash in non-biodegradable trash bags that take 100 years to degrade in landfills??

Fisette systematically eliminated anyone with an IQ over 120 from participation in his energy task force...that's why.

I am tired of Arlington being run by and for hedonists and plutocrats. I will vote for Audrey Clement in November.

Our County is being run and ruined by Dumb Growth Dummies, that's why.

Not true that they are dumb growth dummies. Walter Tejada's soccer IQ is 140. Mary Hynes's party IQ is also 140.

Every month there's a shredding party at the Arlington Trades Center where you can bring a couple shopping bags of old bills and have them shredded by County employees. All the shredded bills go into brand new polyethylene trash bags.

Zimmerman's how to massively waste money on rail transit IQ is 180.

They are all talk when it comes to the environment....

Then there the tear-downs of affordable homes and replacement by energy-inefficient McMansions - count the number of heat pumps, usually 2 or 3.

Next A.Y. post - McMansions?

Nothing can ever be improved because...it's not the Arlington Way. Same old same old forever.

You have to buy the biodegradable trash bags that are certified for composting...available in many large organic foods stors.

What's the prognosis for the recommendations of Fisette's energy task force if the small things can't be done? Why does the Green Party have to push so hard to get anything accomplished regarding inert consumer items recycled, biodegraded, or use-restricted?

Lowes Hardware sells compostible lawn and leaf bags.
