Arlington's Bikeshare Program - Another Artisphere

Hi, Yupette,

Take a look at Agenda Items 24 and 26 on the County Board's Agenda for this Saturday's meeting. They involve a big increase in funding of Arlington's Bikeshare program. It's going to be like the Artisphere, County Board will reward its non-profit and for-profit friends and campaign contributors with funding for their biker organizations.

And there's even $300,000 for a "Driver, Pedestrian, and Bicyclist Safety Program". About time.

How about people who won't, or can't, ride bicycles? Well, you're out of luck. Don't want to ride a bicycle in the winter? Don't like bicycles? Think Arlington streets are too dangerous to ride bicycles? Too old to ride a bicycle? Too disabled to ride a bicycle? Too bad.

Oh, this is the same County Board that approved the construction of 30,000 new parking spaces in Arlington between 2000 and 2010 and is on-track to approve the construction of 20,000-30,000 more this decade.

No More Artispheres

Why don't the Yuptards on the Arlington Board of Yuptards pave Wilson Boulevard in front of the Artisphere before they do anything else?

This is bulls---. Another major league Gimme Gang.

This is getting to be idiotic. I see women pushing baby strollers down bicycle lanes, dressed in black from head to toe.

The younger Yuptards don't give a s---. They're moving to a McMansion in a residential McLean neighborhood in a few years. The older Yuptards also don't give a s---. They're retiring to a gated senior community in a few years.

Speaking of Biketards, get ready for Rolling Thunder in two weeks.

I'm 71 years old. Can you Yuppies please grow up and let this senior drive her Prius to the supermarket without scaring me half to death with your bicycle antics along the way?

Yuppies grow up? LOL.

Something like 1400 new parking spaces approved for 3 sites - Virginia Towers, Rosenthal, and Arlington Mill. And we're only 4 1/2 months into 2011.

This bikeshare stuff is what, 90% recreational. Also seasonal. I understand there is a controversy about pay and benefits for bikeshare employees. So who's going to pick up the tab for bike sharing?

When Fenty was Mayor of DC the joke was you could tell a neighborhood was going to be gentrified when a bikeshare station appeared overnight.

Yes, another Artisphere, planned and facilitated by County Staff who live in Fairfax County.

Doesn't it bother anyone that the County Board can't get enough $$$ together to pave the County's main street, Wilson Blvd.?

Doesn't it bother anyone that the 14 people on the County's PR staff are so busy re-electing Ambassador Tejada and Partier Hynes they can't produce a basic bicycle-pedestrian safety video?

Hello Biketards:

Happy Bike to Work Day - 2011

Be sure to wear your favorite black clothing as you run stop signs and traffic lights on your way to whatever on-the-job retirement activity the government or a non profit pays you $100,000 a year to do.

Check out the Alexandria Gazette Packet this week about the projected cost of Alexandria's Bikeshare program. Yeah, appears that Arlington's Bikeshare program is going to be another Artisphere.

Next Fi$$ette / County Board fiscally insane stunt after Bike$$hare and the $260 Million Longbridge $$ports Arena / Aqua$$phere?

The $40 million Potomac River Boathou$$e.

Arlington's streets and roads are in too bad a condition to encourage bicycle use.

In Alexandria it will cost #1800 to put one bicycle on the streets per year.

Alexandria also wants to heavily develop the waterfront for a mixed use party zone.

Bikeshare is an expensive seasonal recreation program. Like outdoor swimming pools.

If Arlington wants to do something about traffic it should stop building new parking lots.

Bikeshare is another pet progam for the County Board's pet yuptard interests.

Anyone see the yuptards volunteering to transport seniors in winter?
