Stop Single-Use Plastic Event Scheduled for April 3rd

Hey Yupette,

The Arlington Green Party, Arlingtonians for a Green Environment, and the Mt. Vernon Chapter of the Sierra Club are sponsoring a public panel discussion at Arlington Central Library, 1015 North Quincy Street, on Sunday April 3rd, 4-6 PM, on the topic of eliminating single use plastic bags and styrofoam containers from Arlington's retail stores and restaurants. The public is warmly invited to attend this panel discussion, which is free to all.

Why isn't there a push by the County's environmental task force for widespread use of biodegradable plastic bags?

OK, three are 3,500 residential units in Fairlington and maybe 2000 put out trash in plastic trash bags curbside every day. Trash is picked up 6 days a week. Not on major holidays. So we are seeing 2,000 plastic trash bags picked up 325 days a year = 650,000 trash bags from one large condo community.

Ycu can find biodegradable tall kitchen bags in most supermarkets. Sometimes you can find biodegradable drawstring trash bags. They are not cheap.

I took my 2 Trader Joes shopping bags full of bank and bill statements and addressed envelopes, labels, etc. to the Arlington County property yard yesterday for the once-a-month paper shredding event. The shredded paper was conveyed into large polyethylene bags. People just left their paper shopping bags there to be disposed of. Why?

Ask Arlington's 'Green Guy', Gerald Fisette.

Greenies are a bunch of Socialists who get in the way of re-development.

We want Dr. Dremo on the Pike. We want Dr. Dremo on the Pike. We want Dr. Dremo on the Pike.

Two suggestions: When Dr. Dremo is relocated to the Pike all food and beverages must be served in/on styrofoam. Second, all games of beer pong must be played using styrofoam cups.

What Socialists? Today's meeting was another charette, pronounced 'charade' where the Greens, ACE, and Sierra Club whined about the state of the environment and booseted Abby Raphael for School Board.

They complained about all the plastic bottles that get washed into the Potomac from storm sewers but what's outside the Central Library's Auditorium but two big vending machines full of 16 oz plastic bottles of water.

Why doesn't Miriam Gennari ask her lawyer-litigator husband why fast food restaurants are not only using more styrofoam, they are using a denser and higher-quality styrofoam. Because they get sued by ambulance chasing lawyers if their customers get burned by hot coffee from a paper cup.

Styrofoam, another green gimmick for another up-and-coming pol.

Yo, Green Party, Abby Raphael is Miriam Gennari's ACDC-approved mentor.

Abby Raphael has no problem with snack food vending machines inside energy pig schools like W-L.

School Board's a mess. What else is new?

The whine heard coming out of the Central Library auditorium was about as loud as a helicopter engine.
