Two Site Plans = 1092 Residential and Retail Parking Spaces

Hello Ms. Yupette:

The Site Plan Review Committee (composed of County Board-selected 'Community Leaders' who will rubber-stamp anything Boss Zimmerman puts in front of them) approved two site plans last evening. One, Virginia Square Towers, will contain 631 residential and retail parking spaces. The other, the Rosenthal Auto Dealership site, will contain 461 residential and retail parking spaces. Total parking spaces from these two site plans is 1092.

I live off South Walter Reed Drive. We are already seeing a big influx of traffic from Shirlington redevelopment. We will soon experience a lot more traffic once the BRAC 133 complex is opened to employee on-site parking, within 6 months.

Who is looking out for us here? Certainly not the County Board and the people the County Board hires and appoints.

Cindy, Fairlington

Cindy, the County Board only cares about the interests of the "Redevelopment for the Sake of Redevelopment" interests.

You can take your Dodge or Jeep to Ourisman on Rt 1 just south of the Beltway. Try to avoid PM rush hour traffic.

Take Dr. Dremo south of the Beltway....like Daytona Beach.

Did someone mention 6,500 parking spaces about to be used by BRAC employees at Mark Center?

Hey, Cindy, traffic and parking in Shirlington is such a mess that there's going to be a special meeting on April 7th at the Shirlington Library.

This is the re-development Zimmerman is using as a model for East Falls Church.

I'm appalled that people who live nowhere near the Rosenthal Site are making re-development decisions while the affected neighborhoods in South Arlington are kept in the dark.

T.Y. said...

Appalling? No Asians, Afro-Americans, Latinos, or any other minority group members even attended the site plan review meeting.

County Board could easily approve 6500 new parking spaces on the Pike, concomitant with the Form Based Charade.

Dr. Dremo Regular., even better take your Chrysler vehicle for servicing down to Safford Jeep/Dodge in Springfied on Commerce Ave -- fight through I395 bottlenecks at the BRAC site. Dine at Mike's American Grill while waiting for rush hour traffic to clear. Stock up at Total Wine & More. Send the Mrs. over to the Talbot's outlet. Take care of your handyman needs and get personal service at Fisher Hardware. You know, do all those things that you can't do in Chris Zimmerman's livable walkable community.

Why does Carrie Johnson, who lives in Ashton Heights when she's not living in Montana, have so much clout when it comes to this approval process? Same Carrie Johnson who along with her fellow Republican Club Woman, Nancy Hunt, gave us the Shirlington mess.

BTW, I do not need or want any more rush hour traffic on South Walter Reed Drive, from BRAC or from the redeveloped Rosenthal site.

Law firm representing the out-of-county developers is Walsh "We Live in McLean" Colucci.

Anon., you don't have to go far to see a livable community, there's one in Alexandria right across Quaker Lane from Paulie Ferguson's and Libby Garvey's neighborhood in South Fairlington.

Across Quaker Lane? Do you mean Alexandria will allow the flower shop, the pet shop and the bicycle shop to remain? That locals can continue to commune with friends and get to know their neighbors at Ramparts? That a locally-owned bank (Burke & Herbert didn't take any TARP money) will be allowed to stay? And there isn't going to be a 9-story, mixed use dumb-growth development on top of the car dealership site? Can't let happen in Arlington, that favors residents way too much at the expense of the developers.

What has Walsh Colucci ever done for Arlington besides inflicting one magalith building after another on us?

Oh, you also take your Smart Car to the Lindsay Smart Car dealership after it's been damaged driving over Arlington's potholed and broken streets. Have a slice of pizza next door. Admire the way the Lindsay Lexus repair shop blends in so well with the neighborhood no one realizes it's there. Buy an ice cream cone at Baskin Robins. Buy a loaf of bread at the bakery. Meet people who live in the affordable single family homes across from the repair shop, and the people who live in mid-rise condos around the corner, and do things people do in a truly livable suburban community.

Paulie Ferguson? Same Paulie Ferguson who's responsible, along with Jay Fisette, for the Shirlington traffic and parking fiasco? Another one who approved dumb growth for 12 years and split the scene.

Did you know that Fairlington stretches from Quaker Lane to S. Walter Reed Drive (about 1.2 miles) and that Planning Commissioner Hunt can see the PM rush hour traffic backed up on S. Walter Reed Drive to King Street from her Fairlington townhouse?

Martin and Nan Walsh squeeze every dime out of every deal. For whose benefit? Theirs. And the out-of-state developers they represent aided and abetted by County Staff who live outside Arlington and are only working for a paycheck.

I'm voting for Rob Krupicka in the Democratic State Senate Primary. You can vote for him too. It's a state primary election. Not a party caucus. You show up and you vote. Just like in November.

Libby Garvey should retire, we've had enough of her 'Megabucks for Mediocrity' bull-oney.

Who is 'Mr. Go Along With The Program'? None other than Fairlington resident and Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey, who's always telling us college educated adults that we're messed-up in one way or another for not going along with the County Board's mega-development program. 'Course Scotty takes his orders from the Northern VA Board of Realtors and Arlington Chamber of Commerce, so what can you expect?

Sun Gazette and it's parent newspaper chain don't pay a dime in taxes in Arlington County.

The entire so-called 'planning process' in Arlington is nothing more than a giveaway to developers in return for their re-segregating Arlington County.

Yupette, keep wearing that bag. CPRO is all bent out of shape about this blog and anyone who opposes their form-based mega-development.
