ACE March Expo - Mostly Green Gimmicks

Hello Yupette,

Nice to see a few corporations and organizations at ACE's Green Living Expo offered products and services that can save Arlington residents a lot of money while saving the environment. High efficiency insulation, replacement windows, and on-site solar water heating are three.

But on balance, Arlingtonians for a Green Environment hosted another Green Gimmick Expo in an energy pig of a building - Washington and Lee High School. Why are corporations like Dominion Resources invited? All Dominion ever does is make promises about developing this or that alternative energy source to (eventually) replace coal and nuclear generating plants. Dominion is to Green energy and Barbara Favola is to homeless shelters. Then there's the Sierra Club ;-{

I had to laugh when I asked the guy who was showing off his $41,000 Volt hybrid whether he could recharge the batteries from solar panels on the roof of his garage. He said No.

Speaking of Washington and Lee High School, for the 1/4 the cost of all the fancy ironwork and unnecessary amenities W & L could heated by solar and geothermal.

I was floored when I saw the snack food vending machine at the entrance. Thank you Libby. Just what our kids need.

ACE is a subsidiary of Jay Fisette's Fossil Fuels Forever Coalition.

No ACE is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dominion Resources.

How about trading green derivatives? I learned all about it this afternoon at the Expo. Call this toll-free 800-number for more information about how to set up a Green Dream Investment Account. Investments are speculative. Licensed by the Government of Somalia, Securities and Investment Protection Corporation.

You think it's a cool school? Every homework assignment is a take home test and the faculty is constantly thinking up new rules. Yes, it costs a fortune to heat and air condition W-L.

This green garbage has been going on for years and now we are starting to hear the same Wall Streeters we bailed out last year making pitches for Green snake oil.

The Volt looks mediocre, inside and out. All your money goes for the electronics.

Can we have some real green technology displayed at the next Green Expo. The Chinese are so far ahead of us it's scary.

ACE, please do not hold another Green Expo at W-L. W-L is an environmental disaster and we the taxpayers are stuck paying for W-L's energy costs and well as paying off the construction bonds.

Import Chinese photovoltaic panels and at $4.98 per panel you will be able to heat and light the entire school for $7000.

Yeah, all that's needed for solsr to take off is cheap solar.

Insulation should get more attention.

How about McMansions?

W-L High School is poor, poor model for anything.

There was a geezer pitching green investments at the Potomac Overlook Nature Center a week ago. I saw the solar array there is working again. Nature Center is heated by natural gas and no plans to install solar water heating. There is, however, a recharging station recently installed for an electric car, which would be powered by electricity geneated by coal and nuclear generating plants.

The Jim Mayer Energerium is being co-opted by stuffed animals. How appropriate, it's all B-S, just as Jim was.

NO to electing Libby Garvey and Mary Hynes to anything. Both responsible for W-L and next Wakefield which will be worse because Wakefield will be surrounded by energy pig trailer classrooms.

W-L has 10 foot ceilings, except where it has 20 foot and 30 foot ceilings. How energy efficient is that?

ACE shares public space in the Fairlington Community Center. Fairlington residents asked for solar water heating to be installed when the Fairlington Community Center was renovated. County government ignored us.

Sierra Club? They live right on the shore of the Bay in $3 million McMansions. Some live on the shore of the Potomac in $5 million estates.

All you need is a heavy-duty sine wave inverter (125 volts DC to 125 volts AC) between the solar panels on your garage roof and your plug-in electric vehicle.

Ask Jay Fisette how many Washington Gas and Dominion Resources employees have gone through the various programs offered by his domestic partner's international corporate consulting firm.

W-L also has windowed curtain walls and a windowed curtain-walled courtyard.
