County Board Set to Hit Businesses Hard With FY 2012 Taxes and Fees

Hello Yupette,

A majority of County Board members decided to spare residential property owners another big tax increase on top of assessment increases. However the County Board (including 'business-friendly' Chairman Zimmerman) has decided to hit businesses with big tax increases based on a commercial property assessment increase of over 12%. You can check it out on the County's Web site arlingtonva.us, agenda items 29 A through K on Saturday's agenda (Item 29 will be heard by the County Board on Tuesday, February 15th).

While you're going through Item 29, check out Item 29 G - Rosslyn BID, the $3 million Rosslyn businesses will be taxed will be used for everything but business improvement, mostly for entertainment and recreation.

Parking meter fees and wastewater treatment fees are going up. Only decrease is in solid waste collection fess because of the increase in scrap metal prices for the recycled metals the County collects

The Crystal City BID is almost as bad as the Rosslyn BID. When my lease expires I'm moving my business far outside Arlington. Thanks to high-speed Internet I don't have to locate my business near D.C. Crystal City is going to be a "profit center" for the REITs. The County Board and Arlington Chamber are anti-small business, no matter what they say.

I wonder how much the County Board will raise their salaries, also on the agenda for next Tuesday.

If you haven't noticed, Sun Gazette Editor and Chamber of Commerce VIP Scott McCaffrey has already decided to endorse Mary "Party's Over Here" Hynes, Walter "Nada" Tejada, and Abby "I'm a Lawyer" Raphael. Three big facilitators of the County's tax small business and spend the money on sports, entertainment, and recreation. There is no way I'll ever advertise in the Sun Gazette.

Why is McCaffrey a member of the Arlington Chamber's Executive Committee? Sun Gazette's editorial and advertising offices are in Springfield and since the paper is distributed free of charge the company doesn't pay any sales taxes either.

Why does McCaffrey defend County Treasurer Frank O'Leary's wasteful pet programs like the vehicle tax decal?

I'm moving my small business out of Arlington. We can have high speed Internet elsewhere and if we have to attend meetings we can take AMTRAK twice a month.

Arlington County Government is insatiable and impossible.

Where are the turkeys from the so-called Arlington Republican Party and the so-called Arlington County Taxpayers Association? Attending youth league soccer practice?

Ask Chris Berg and Tim Wise.

Maybe the RePigs will persuade Wayne Kubicki and Jim Pebley to show up and make their usual half-baked prognostications.

Any small business person who is not considering moving their business out of Arlington has to be either brain-damaged or a total adherent to the REITsFuhrer's foolosophy.

I read this week's Alexandria Times and Alexandria is doing the same to business owners there.
