County Board Heavily Influenced by Bushpublican Chamber of Commerce

Hi Yupette,

As long as you're enlightening us about Scott McCaffrey's major conflict of interest with the Arlington Chamber, how about the County Board's own dealings with the Bushpublicans who run the Arlington Chamber? Except for Chris Zimmerman, the County Board was "comped" by the Chamber for attending multiple Chamber events last year.

The Arlington Chamber is way to the right of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The U.S. Chamber endorses on-site renewable energy while the Arlington Chamber opposes that. So why am I not surprised that the County Board isn't pushing to have solar water heating panels installed on all County buildings, something that would pay for itself within 6 years? Anyone else wonder how "Democratic" the Arlington Democrats who make all the political decisions in this county really are?

H.T.

I'm employed in I.T. and don't work for the federal government or federal contractors. It burns me up that the Chamber sent a big delegation to China last year to learn how to outsource American I.T. jobs.

Check out tomorrow's County Board consent agenda regarding signs.

County Board is all for the Arlington Chamber's Big Business agenda. Coming soon to my neighborhood soon via a big out-of-state REIT.

Westover beer garden? What a GD mess that turned out to be. Visited lately?

Westover beer garden? Remember Hillbilly Heaven south of Ft. Belvoir? The H.H. vets do their re-enactment outdoors in Westover every weekend when the weather's nice. Otherwise inside the Forest Inn.

You been chasing that almond wine with too many double shots of Bushmills at Whitlows. When was the last time the County Board pulled a restaurant's use permit for live entertainment?

In places like Loudon County Republicans and Democrats agree that new residences should be required to pay impact fees of up to $57,500 per unit to fund infrastructure (transit/transportation, schools, parks, water, sewer etc.). In Arlington, Republicans and Democrats agree developers should pay nothing except for amorphous contributions to pet political projects. In Loudon County the board stands up to the Chamber of Commerce, demanding real payments for real capital improvements, but not in Arlington.

I fully expect Zimmerman to participate in the next Arlington Chamber "Outsource Arlington IT Jobs" delegation to Shanghai as a guest of the Arlington Chamber.

The Chamber wiil send Zimmy to Shanghai on a Phil Keating Memorial Educational Grant.

As a matter of fact, Mary Hynes is the County Board's 'Certified Party Zone Planner'.

Zimmerman will sit on the plane (an Airbus 380 manufactured in Europe which Scotty McCaffrey promotes) next to Scotty and together they will map out campaign strategy for November's elections to re-select the Chamber's favorite Republicrats.
