County Board's Treatment of Taxi Industry - Lose, Lose, Lose

Hello, Ms. Yupette:

I own a small business here in Arlington. I am very concerned about the treatment of Arlington's taxi industry by the County Board at Saturday's meeting. The County Board and County Government do absolutely nothing for the taxi industry but regulate it to death and impose more fees, takes, and requirements on everyone in the industry, ranging from drivers to taxi company owners. It's obvious that the County Board wants us to only use Metrorail, Metrobuses, and bicycles. Oh, and drive everywhere one-to-a-vehicle.

The manner in which the County Board denied taxi certificates to two 'green' companies was an affront to Arlington small business. The taxi drivers who attended the County Board meeting should have focused their anger on the do-nothing County Board, not the green taxi companies.

You forgot the do-nothing Chamber of Commerce. Chamber board member Scott McCaffrey, gave the County Board a Thumbs Up today for the County Board's shabby treatment of the two taxi companies, who were only following the County Board's new taxi ordinance when applying for additional taxi certificates.

Drivers, taxi companies, environment all lost. Political machine's status quo won. Again.

What does the County Board really care about? The economic well being of the REITs.

What do you expect of Favola? Welcome more poor Third World political and economic refugees to Arlington? Not if she can avoid it.

If Fisette were really eager for more Green technology in Arlington he would have made this a win-win-win, for the drivers, industry, and environment.

I figure this is a prelude to the report of Fisette's charade energy task force.

Where was the Green Party? They were not at Saturday's CB meeting.

McCaffrey only wants to cover galas, luncheons, dinners, banquets, parties, etc.

You would think that with the creation of new Party Zones by Fisette, Favola, and Hynes the County Board would want a fleet of taxis to drive the Partiers who are drunk and or high on controlled substances from Party Zone to Party Zone and then home when they are really wasted.

What did you expect from the Arlington Chamber of Commerce? When they aren't throwing a gala event they are in China making deals to outsource any American job that doesn't involve national security.

What are these urban village idiots thinking? We need taxis, not Metrobuses, to take us home after a hard night's partying.

Fisette and McCaffrey should be in Key West right now, helping arrange the December 31, 2011 U.S.S. Arlington's commissioning as the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Fleet Party Ship.

Same County Bord that micromanages the architecture of buildings in the B-R Corridor when they review site plans.

Same County Board that gave Vornado (an out-of-state REIT) an $82-$112 million welfare for the wealthy deal last month taken out of future general fund revenues.

LOL, I gotta believe that the U.S.S. Arlington will be based in either Key West or San Francisco.

When Fidel finally croaks Fisette and McCaffrey will hit the Cuban beaches with the first group of the U.S. military to go ashore on shore leave - from the U.S.S. Arlington.

Thumbs Down to Arlington's Minister of Propaganda and Information, Diana Sun, for failing to do anything whatsoever to promote Arlington's taxi industry.

The County Board is preparing a secret resolution, to be announced and approved in 2011, asking the Secretary of Defense to opt the U.S.S. Arlington out of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Hey, that's not all. There's going to be a remake of "The Love Boat" TV series but this time on a U.S. Navy ship. Jay Fisette is on the short list to play the captain. U.S.S Arlington is on the short list to be the love boat.

Also on the short list is "Captain Ron" Fisher. For when the U.S.S. Arlington is chartered to Greenpeace.

Based on a mystery novel by John Antonelli.

Why is Joyce Rumsfeld christening the U.S.S. Arlington? The honor should go to Arlington's First Partier, Mary Hynes.
