County Board Poised to Approve Zimmerman's $257 Million Transit Plan

Hi Yupette,

County Board is set to approve Zimmerman's $257 million transit plan for the next 6 fiscal years, including $138 million for the Pike trolley and $69 million for the Crystal City trolley. Rest will go to WMATA, to ART, and to the County Board's pet transportation projects. This was item 30 on Saturday's Consent Agenda, which someone pulled or it would have not been discussed by the County Board. This item will be discussed by the County Board and whichever citizens show up tonight at 6:30 in the County Board Room.

They put $257 million in spending on the Consent Agenda? Has to be a new record.

They are corrupt in so many ways that don't involve graft, payoffs, etc.

Same County Board that had to give the School Board $33 million to cover the cost of a 1,000-student increase? And another 4,000-student increase expected during the next 5-6 years?

Tonight's County Board meeting proved one thing - Jay Fisette is a total nut case when it comes to bicycles.

Did you notice that Zimmerman gave his pet activist a shuttle bus route between Arlington and DC so she could lobby the County Board about an alternative to Orange Line overcrowding?

Time for Zimmerman to answer the question that's been asked (and ignored) ever since the Silver Line started to be planned - What happens when 60,000 commuters from Tysons and Dulles reach the East Falls Church Metro Station at 8 AM?

Love your blog! I’ve included it on a site I’ve created, which is a compilation of some of the best blogs in the city.

Zimmerman is becoming very nervous about what happens to the Orange Line when the Silver Line opens.

Zimmerman is really reprehensible for not being pro-active regarding the Orange Line / Silver Line and telling one of his activist enablers to bring up an alternative to the Orange Line being overwhelmed when discussing a consent agenda (no less) item for hundreds of millions for Zimmerman's pet trolley projects.

This County is APPALLING. APPALLING. One person with sanity and common sense attended this meeting and refuted Zimmerman's insanely expensive vanity trolleys (the Crystal City trolley will cost more than the Columbia Pike trolley) and Fisette's wacky ideas about everyone riding bicycles in the winter. Where were the fiscally responsible Republicans and Green Party? Next year I will attend County Board meetings and speak out.

i attended a meeting at Meriweather Post Pavilion when the Silver Line was being planned. Audrey Clement (Green Party Chair) asked Stu Schwartz (Smarter Growth CEO) what would happen when all the Silver Line commuters from Tysons and Dulles reached the Orange Line. Stu replied - "That's not my problem."

They threw a big party to celebrate Zimmerman's re-selection outside the County Board Room before last night's meeting and AVN spent at least $10,000 making a self-congratulatory video to celebrate Fisette's tenure as County Board Chair.

The Rail-to-Dulles organization was asked multiple times about the Orange Line being overwhelmed - never a response.
