Post Report - Metro Was Not Following Its Own Escalator / Elevator Maintenance Standards

Hi Yupette,

Well I'm definitely no longer commuting to work via MetroRail. The Post reported today that Metro does not regularly inspect its elevators and escalators. What kind of public transportation system is WMATA, anyway? In Virginia we have to get our brakes checked every year as part of the annual safety inspection to be able to register our vehicles. And I thought escalators and elevators were supposed to be inspected every year. Every day another unpleasant surprise from WMATA.

If WMATA followed its own escalator and elevator maintenance standards half of WMATA's budget would be spent on elevator and escaator maintenance.

Meanwhile, Metro Board member Zimmerman is totally concerned with Metro station cosmetics.

I was riding down a Metro escalator in 1980 and was wearing running shoes. The sole of my running shoe became caught between the plates of the moving escalator and the stationery side panel. The running shoe was torn off my foot. That happened 30 years ago. Metro escalators are nothing but problems. How much has WMATA paid out in personal injury settlements since 1975 resulting from escalator injuries?

WMATA will be paying millions in personal injury damages to the 16 Metro riders who were injured last weekend.

If the Post weren't such a shill for Smart Growth Gentrification, Zimmerman, Graham, and about a dozen other WMATA politricksters would be asleep right now at the Allenwood Federal Prison Farm waiting to milk the dairy herd at 4 AM.

I love Americans, but you are stuck in a 2-party system where the politicians from both parties steal you blind, when they are not taxing you to death to fight wars in the Third World.

Neocons (Newt, Cheney, Palin, Cantor, etc.) are out to totally co-opt the Tea Party.

More 'gotcha' journalism from the Post. Zimmerman is worth more alive than dead to the Post which has earned huge profits from 're-segregation through gentrification'. Just as Bin Laden is worth more alive than dead to the CIA, NSA, and DOD.

Washington Post Company? You mean the publishing subsidiary of Berkshire-Hathaway?

Yes, we know. But did you expect us to endure double-digit unemployment forever without doing or saying anything?

Yes, Harley...they're BAAACK. Same Bush-Cheney-DeLay pirate crew that sold you that subprime mortgage in 2005 and then lent you 100% of the equity of your McMansion back in 2007.

So now WMATA has hired a big buck consulting firm named "Vertical Transportation Excellence" that will issue a report telling WMATA that it needs to inspect escalators and elevators regularly.
