Pike, EFC Projects - 'Development for the Sake of Development' Pushed by County Board, Planners, REITs, 'Community Leaders'

Hello Yupette,

I attended the East Falls Church planning forum yesterday. My son, who lives near Bailey's Crossroads, attended the Columbia Pike Planning forum at Godwin House.

It's clear that these projects are 'development for the sake of development' pushed by the Arlington County Board, real estate trusts and developers, the County's bloated planning staff that's looking for more projects to justify its existence, and the County Board's pet 'community leaders'.

These were more charade forums where the affected residents are not allowed to ask questions or make comments, only submit written comments - for the record.

Sad, sad, sad to see massive development imposed on suburban neighborhoods that only want the basics upgraded and better public services, like streets paved and modern street lighting installed.

A major force behind these redevelopment projects is Arlington's large planning department that's constantly looking for mega-development projects to justify its existence.

I resent CPHD employees who don't live in Arlington inflicting these projects on our residential neighborhoods.

As in Shirlington and Crystal City, the County Board uses it's pet "community leaders" as shills to inflict more dumb growth on neighborhoods that are already stressed from traffic, overcrowded schools, etc.

I attended the EFC charade at Tuckahoe School. The street lighting in this neighborhood is so bad I could not see my hand in front of my face. Yet there is all kinds of money to hand to the developers and REITs.

Towering developments and sharrowing make Arlington County look more like Beijing every day.

Anyone seen today's news? Moran won't be earmarking the anything out of anything next year, according to the Tea Party Republicans.

"Pet Community Leaders"? You wouldn't be referring to Mike Nardozimmy, would you?

The REITs were not compelled to build public parks and recreation in Shirlington, so guess where Shirlington residents go for open space recreation? My neighborhood in Fairlington. It will be the same for neighborhoods adjacent to Crystal City and EFC.

These mega-projects are make-work forarlington's elitist planning staff who don't live in Arlington and whose motto is "We know what's best for you".

Arlington's "Planning" Department is the worst. Spend their time at "work" rubber stamping the developers' bad planning and then turn around and tell taxpayers and residents how wonderful the plans are at community charade meetings. What a bunch of shills.

Charades continue with the energy planning charades tomorrow and Thursday.

I would like to know what the controversy is between the Fairlington civic association and the Shirlington restaurant owners.

The Fairlington civic association is a corrupt bunch of rumor mongers and busybodies who, for years, have been using the use permit process in attempting to extort money from Shirlington's restaurant owners for full page ads in the FCA's monthly newsletter. The FCA has about $100,000 in its treasury and spends very little on community service. So far the restaurant owners have refused to "cooperate". The corrupt County Board has repeatedly empowered the corrupt FCA to continue trying to extort money from Shirlington restaurant owners, most recently at the November 16th County Board meeting.

If this s--- is going on on Shirlington how much corrupt activity can we expect from Crystal City, Columbia Pike, and East Falls Church redevelopment?

Extortion. Isn't that a federal crime?
