Fisette Ordered County Staff to Promote Artisphere's December 4th Gay-Lesbian 'Kiss and Hug'

Hello, Ms. Yupette,

I am employed at the Artisphere and I was under the impression that the Artisphere is for ALL Arlingtonians.

I was shocked when County Board Chairman, Jay Fisette, ordered us to promote AGLA's December 4th 'Kiss and Hug' Gala at the Artisphere. It appears that Mr. Fisette wants to make the Artisphere into a Gay-Lesbian nightclub.

That's not all. I was told the other day the the reason there's been no philanthropy to take the Artisphere private is because the County Board wants PRCR to continue to run the Artisphere indefinitely, so as to use Artisphere events to promote the County Board's pet interests.

How's about that for sleaziness?

Anon. Artisphere Employee

County Public Relations staff in the County Manager's office are putting out the word that the Artisphere is a gay-lesbian, etc., night club.

ASPAN is hosting a big event at the Artisphere to help keep the homeless homeless. How's about that for sleaziness?

Where are the Republicans? Oh, I see there's a bunch of youth soccer games scheduled this week.

It's obvious what the purpose of the Business Improvement Districts is - slush funds for party zones.

This party was Jay Fisette's idea - PRCR staff at the Artisphere had nothing to do with it.

Margaret, why do you think the non-profits in Ballston are so unhappy with a BID being established there?

Jay Fisette does not represent the views and interests of all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Arlingtonians.

All must be given an opportunity. I hear J. Walter Tejada ordered the County Manager to plan a day laborer gala at the Artisphere. They will be invited to kiss and hug their tools.

Pretty slick, strip funding from everywhere to build the Artisphere and then schedule events that indicate to County residents that the Artisphere is for the County Board's pet special interests. Lack of philanthropy ensures that the Artisphere won't be privatized and will remain under the control of the County Board and County Manager.

Time for an Arlington Tea Party

Do these Business Improvement Districts improve business? Or, do they improve restaurant business?

County Government corrupts everything it touches.

This just makes my blood boil from a spending perspective. Why is the county spending on this fluff and ignoring the maintenance of existing infrastructure?

Example: There is only one county fitness center that opens before 8am on weekdays, Thomas Jefferson (TJ), which opens at 6:30am, way too late for working people to exercise in the am and still get to work on time. Most private gyms, and all of those run by Fairfax county open at 5am.

For TJ to open at 6am weekdays, it would only cost an additional about $7000 annually, but they can't afford it, despite the $5.98M bond that was just passed.

This is ridiculous... What will it take to start a tea party in the county?

Anyone at all concerned about Arlington having state-of-the-art synthetic playing surfaces at all the schools, and the schools surrounded by trailer classrooms, circa 2018?

The entire county budget is a Ponzi scheme, with the PRCR budget being the worst.

Well, anon., what do you expect when Arlington's Leading Republican is a big time Soccer Dad?

Kevin L. said...

Anonymous, you are talking about fitness? Have you noticed how many TJ students are obese?

Do you know what the synthetic surfaces cost? There's the $800,000 to install ONE playing field (lighting is extra). Then there's the $800,000 after 8 years to resurface the ONE playing field. So, if the ONE playing field is used 300 days a year, that's $333 a day in wear and tear on the synthetic surface.

We DESPERATELY need a Tea Party is Arlington.

Yes fed up, it would be much less expensive to hire, equip and supply a full-time groundskeeper for each single field (could probably do a great job with a groundskeeper for every four fields), but then the money would go into the pockets of a person rather than a corporate shill that can be hit up for political contributions.

County is also on a roll to build new synthetic tennis courts at $450,000 each.

County Board promised H.B. Woodlawn parents a $1 million lighted soccer field, in next year's budget.

Pretty appalling to realize that while 30% of Arlington's school kids are obese the emphasis is on team sports for approximately 10% of Arlington's school kids who are athletically gifted. Oh, BTW our schools superintendent majored in that pedological oxymoron - physical education.
