Dominion Making Millions from Inefficient Street Lighting

Hi Yupette,

Know why we have such poor street lighting in Arlington? Because Dominion Resources is making millions from keeping the old energy-inefficient mercury vapor streets burning as long as possible. Longer mercury vapor streets burn the more energy they use the less light they produce. County Board has squandered millions of tax dollars on this and other energy wasting scams that benefit the utility companies.

I called DES a dozen times about replacing the mercury vapor lamps in the street lights in my neighborhood and got the run around each time I called.

County Board awards millions in bonus density for "green gimmicks" to their pet developers. Like for installing bicycle racks in a new 400-vehicle underground parking garage.

Break-even for high efficiency solar water heating units in schools is typically 6 years. Face it, the pols and the media that support the pols and the status quo are being paid off.

Several persons who were environmentally conscious (not Green activists) asked the school board a decade ago why solar water heating could not be installed on middle school and high school rooftops. They were ignored. These were citizens who had seen solar heating installed on a few buildings in Arizona and New Mexico and wondered why it couldn't be done here.

Can we please have a thread about the huge "environmental" charade being produced by County Government - the Community Energy and Environmental Task Force - to benefit the fossil fuel companies, developers who are receiving taxpayer funded corporate welfare, and the sleazy Chamber of Commerce?

Anon., you forgot the sleazy local news media where "on site renewable energy" is a topic that is forbidden to appear in print.

Sleazy local news media? Like the Post, News-Press, Journal Newspapers, Sun Gazette?

There is some wacko at DES who tells you there is nothing wrong with your street light when it's about to burn out and you call to have it replaced.

How about the urban village idiots who run the Civic Federation?

Sleazy journalists? Surely you can't be referring to the Sun Gazette, whose Editor is Mr. Conflicts of Interest and admitted last week that he's out to get all the freebies he can from the people and organizations the Sun Gazette prints news about.

Anyone know who "comped" McCaffrey's trip to Myrtle Beach?

At 19 September, 2010 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCaffrey was at least honest enough to admit that journalists, editors, and publishers are dishonest.

So why should I believe anything McCaffrey or any other journalist or editor prints? The guy didn't even follow his own rules when he awarded letter grades at the CivFed candidates forum.

Dominion Resources is a huge presence on the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. BTW, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce endorses renewable energy.

What's worse are the Dominion Resources approved new street lights which use two sodium vapor lamps that put most of the light on everything but the street and sidewalk,

They are all so corrupt they make neighborhoods compete to have old inefficient street lighting replaced by new inefficient street lighting.
