Time for a Change of Leadership in Arlington

Hi Yupette,

What does the conflict over the failed 'change of government" petition indicate? That it's time for an across-the-board change of leadership in Arlington. The people who are in various positions of authority have just been around too long.

Start with Circuit Court Clerk Paul Ferguson. It was inexcusable for his office to release names, addresses, and social security numbers of persons who signed the petition. Mr. Ferguson should resign.

Next authority figure to go should be Scott McCaffrey, Editor of the Arlington Sun Gazette and a local chamber of commere board member and realtor. As usual, he did not provide important and relevant information about the petition process and the conflicts it generated until the process was over. Instead he deluged us with his usual drivel about his personal likes and dislikes.

Mike Staples should also go. All talk, no action.

Vote for Chisholm for County Board in 2010 said...

Leadership of ACDC and ACRC should resign / retire. They are only interested in inflicting their belief systems on us - abbreviated BS. They amply proved that by their antics over the past six months.

Second the motion that Paul Ferguson should resign.

Arlington Democratic Party leadership that put the names, address and social security numbers of persons who signed the petition on-line should be prosecuted for aiding and abetting identity theft.

Enough is Enough said...

Kevin Chisholm for County Board.

Westover said...

Yes...yes...yes. There are at least 50,000 Republican and Independent voters in Arlington who are fed up. For the petition to fail so miserably shows that it's time to find new leadership that has energy, intelligence, and is politically adept.

Time for a new newspaper. The Post has about 18,000 staff writers, about 17,990 of them do nothing. More time is spent on reporting local obits than about what the local decision makers are deciding.

Local papers are a joke. Editors (like McCaffrey) are a bunch of jive turkeys who are only concerned about ad revenue.

Even a chamber of commerce shill like Nick Benton reports political conflicts in and around FC. McCaffrey, what a waste.

McCafrey's so-called reporting of the COG fiasco was like getting the score of an 18 run game between the Phils and the Nats after every inning. What a jerk.

Sandi said...

Hi Yupette,

Do you have the time to do more local reporting?

First to retire should be Condo Chris Zimmerman. Loser on the County Board, Loser on the Metro Board.

Where is the ACTA leadership? Do any of them even attend CivFed meetings anymore?

Anonymous said...

Pretty pathetic that ACTA has allowed the Greens and Independents to preach fiscal responsibility at County Board meetings.

I'm a Democrat and signed the COG petition but did not include my SS #. However, given the horrendous financial losses people suffer from identity theft I hold Circuit Court Clerk Paul Ferguson and the anti-COG WackoCrats responsible for any and all damages that may be suffered by persons whose social security numbers were published on-line because they signed a petition that is our RIGHT under the U.S. Constitution.

Petitions fail all the time for not meeting signature requirements. Jim Moran's Democratic opponent did not get his name on the ballot because his campaign collected too few signatures. However, it is TOTALLY INEXCUSABLE for Social Security numbers to be posted on-line with voters' names and addresses.

McCaffrey and Benton are small-town newspaper editors and cheerleaders for the chamber of commerce and incumbent pols. Both like to call anyone who doesn't go along with the status quo nasty names. Don't expect anything from them but more of the same. Thanks for this blog.

If I suffered any financial loss from having my Social Security number divulged over the Internet I would sue those who divulged it.

Call Paulie Ferguson and ask if he knows any lawyers who will sue corrupt local pols for divulging your social security number.

Anonymous said...

YES, they should ALL resign - Democrat and Republican alike. Enough of this nonsense. They should also take their media cheerleaders with them into retirement.

As it turns out, real life is as bad as one of Antonelli's stupid novels, I hate them all. What does it take to replace these jerks?

Anonymous said...

All both parties offer is more of the same - deja vu 1995. Boosted by the local media that only care about ad revenue from McMansions and gas guzzlers.

T said...

Second the motion to investigate Ferguson and the Wackycrats for conspiracy to deprive petition signers of their civil rights by allowing petitions to be posted with social security numbers visible.

Anonymous said...

I hate them all too. This county sucks. I am stuck here until I retire in 15 years. What is our 'future'? Having our pleasant neighborhoods torn up for McMansion and condo in-fill and then not being able to get out of our own driveways because of 'smart growth' traffic. Or, walk to Metro and wave as the trains pass by full of passengers. And pay 8% more every year in real estate taxes so they can reward their pet developers and entertainment and recreation groups with our tax dollars.

Peter said...

I gotta ask - TWO local activists, a Republican and Independent, took the County Board to task at the last CB meeting for its extravagant wast of tax dollars. Where the hell was everyone else from among the local political opposition?

Jeanne said...

Everyone else was busy being a Yuppie Soccer Mommy and Daddy.

Nick Benton cannot be compared to Snotty McCaffrey. Read Nick's coverage of the affordable senior housing issue in FC this week vs. Snotty's 'gotcha' reporting about the COG petitions.

Anonymous said...

Nick Benton also reports events as they are unfolding.

Donna said...

Nick Benton will print your letter to the editor. McCaffrey often won't. He also discards 95% of the stuff that's posted to the Sun Gazette news blogs. Especially the posts that disparage the greedy performing arts groups and tell the truth about corrupt local pols from both political parties and the corrupt non-profits that sell their constituents' votes in return for public funding of their vanity projects. McCaffrey is a corrupt shill for the status quo interests.

Barcrofter said...

Only a total corrupt PIG would endorse the posting of names, addresses, and Social Security numbers on-line. At a time when identity theft causes massive misery.

Paul Ferguson should resign and the people who posted Social Security numbers from the COG petition on-line should be named.

Toss the Sun Gazette into the recycle trash with the junk mail. Tell a Sun Gazette advertiser that you no longer read the paper.

Democrats for Democracy said...

Co-Chairs of the Coalition for Arlington Good Government (CAGG), which published the COG petition's Social Security numbers on-line are:

Bill Bozman, Julia Connally, Alan Howze, and Kris McLaughlin.

These are the people responsible for divulging the petition signers' Social Security numbers.

Julie said...

If you are disgusted as I am about Paulie Ferguson handing over names, addresses and social security numbers to CAGG you can contact Chief Judge Newman of the Arlington Circuit Court at: CircuitCourt at arlingtonva.us

Yupette, how about a thread regarding the upcoming October Gala sponsored by the live theater Plutocrats at the Hedosphere?

22207 said...

Notice Scott McCaffrey has nothing to say about Bill Bozman, Judy Connally, Alan Howze, and Kris McLaughlin authorizing the posting of names, addresses, and social security numbers of people who signed the change of government petition to the Web.

What's the difference between the Post and the Sun Gazette? Post is a profit center for Berkshire Hathaway. Sun Gazette is a profit center for General Electric.

If we don't get rid of then first they are going to get rid of us - meaning everyone of us in the middle class who owns a small affordable single family home.

FYI, Nick Benton was President of the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce fifteen years ago. McCaffrey is looking to become President of the Arlington Chamber.

Speaking of the Post, it endorsed Mayor Adrian 'Gentrification' Fenty today, six weeks before the DC Dem. Primary.

E. said...

Post can't pass up big gentrification ad $$$ by allowing Gray to be elected Mayor for the middle class.

Post followed up its endorsement of Fenty with a feature praising the gentrification of PG County.
