Time to End 'Rolling Thunder'

Hello,

I live near I-66 and every year 'Rolling Thunder' is worse, noise and people on motorcycles going way over the speed limit. Memorial Day is not supposed to be this way. Time to end "Rolling Thunder'.

YES. I live near I-395 and the noise from motorcycles is horrible. This has gotten to be a 5-day event and every year it's worse.

Motorcycle noise was very bad last night near I-395. Arlington has a noise ordinance which appears to never be enforced - except for loud parties.

This is not how Memorial Day is supposed to be celebrated.

It's a yearly contest to see who can ride the loudest motorcycle with the most obese woman on the back.

I signed the change of government petition because we are not Arlington any longer we are Myrtle Beach North.

Hey Yupette, Snotty McCaffrey's going after you for posting comments about all the noise in the I-66 and I-395 corridors from Rolling Thunder. 'Course Snotty lives on South 28th Road a mile from 395 and doesn't care about anything more than the next big buffet at the next big Chamber of Commerce function.

McCaffrey is another County Government / Chamber of Commerce Booster. What can you expect?

Ken said...

If McCaffrey like near I-395 he'd be calling the bikers a few names.

Rolling Thunder is supposed to be about POW-MIA issues. Not who has the loudest bike or the fattest old lady.

Myrtle Beach North. That's about what we are. We got a new county manager who knows how to make Myrtle Beach happen here.

Yes, end Rolling Thunder. There is no respect for those who gave their lives defending our country. It's another biker week.

BMW said...

I own a BMW motorcycle. It is not loud and I do not ride over the speed limit.

Harley owners are knuckleheads and idiots. So are Ninja motorcycle owners.

Yes, they deliberately try to wake residents up at 1 AM by revving a bike that's been modified to make a lot of noise.

These guys kept my family awake the past 3 nights. Who runs this circus? The Harley-Davidson dealers?

Scott McCaffrey is Arlington's chamber pot - Chamber of Commerce Booster who's totally full of $hit.

Donna said...

McCaffrey, his newspaper, and his newspaper's parent company American Community Newspapers LLC are among the worst scoundrels in local newspaper publishing.

Anonymous said...

How about a deal with the Bikers. They leave their Harleys and Ninja bikes home next year nad give us some peace and quiet.

former ACN employee said...

Gee, Donna, why is that? Could it be because of the way American Community Newspapers treated its small business creditors and non-editorial employees when it went through Chapter 11 last year?

former biker said...

You can have your Harley modified at any Harley dealer to make a lot of noise. Same with the Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, etc., Ninja bikes.

EPA - Retired said...

Harley-Davidson doesn't care how much noise or air pollution their motorcycles generate. Before the EPA required motorcycles to be manufactured with fuel injection a Harley generated 12 times more air pollution than a SUV.

How about July 4th and Labor Day?

Looks like A.Y. is getting some attention, and the Nanny Nancies like McCaffrey can't handle it. Our lives are supposed to be totally micro-managed - by them.

I was honored to be asked to speak at Rolling Thunder this weekend and attended the a majority of the events. It was an awe-inspiring weekend dedicated to remember and offer appreciation to those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The same freedom which allows the blogger and the comment makers including myself to offer our opinions. There is also the political aspect of this demonstration. Washington D.C. is the center of political demonstrations in this country. Everyone who has a special interest or concern visits there in order to have their voice heard. I can think of no other worthwhile cause which needs to be shouted out at the top of our lungs then the Prisoners of War or Missing in Action who served this country. Their families deserves closure and it is events like this which ensure this stays an important issue. I look forward to many more.

This biker s*** is going on all up and down the East Coast. You can't think anymore because of the noise, let alone sleep.

They are all concerned about their 'Patriotic" right to drive our families nuts for 4 days with their noise. And scare us with their reckless driving. They also behave like a-holes when they stay at local motels. Bunch of juvenile deliquents who wrap themselves in an American Flag.

Enough is Enough.

Arlington Adults to Biker Scum - You are NOT welcome in Arlington!

Thanks to Arlington Yupwette for going after a bunch of 55 going on 17 a-holes who absolutely deserve it.

My Mom lives near Longwood Gardens (on the Deleware-Pennsylvania border). The Harley biker scum have totally destroyed the tranquliity of that area - 6 months a year. Thank you for exposing their entire 'patriotic' charade for what it is - an excuse for trailer court trash party til they puke in a county that already has enough noise from aircraft and bad behavior from a large immigrant population

End Rolling Thunder.

Sick and Tired said...

Don't deny it, Biker Trash - you modify your bikes' exhausts to produce more noise and then you deliberately drive at high RPM to wake people up.

Move Rolling Thunder (aka Arlington Bike Week) to where it belongs - Hillbilly Heaven - KY-IN-OH near Cincinnati.

I can understand how some would wish the whole event just go away and stay away from our streets. I personally live on Rt 50 in Courthouse area - so I can hear this noise myself during all hours of the day throughout the weekend.

I, however, welcome this event for two main reasons. Most of these guys do have good intentions behind their visit and rightfully so - I think they deserve some respect for going to the lengths that they do to come and participate. Not to mention - a good number of these guys are veterans who when returning from war, did not get a welcome home the way our troops do today. This is a chance for them to get some of that respect and to meet up with men they served with and make new acquaintances.

Finally they bring in a good chunk of revenue for the County. It may cost us some disruptions to our sleep and maybe some of our hearing - and maybe because I don't have any kids - it doesn't really bother me - I just fall back asleep if I hear it.

Personally I had a family member and his friend come to participate in the ride. Both are veterans. It was a bucket-list item so to speak. I can tell you that this event was very meaningful for them and I know these guys were not out riding past 10pm the nights that they were in town. In fact they only took their bikes out for a daytime ride on Saturday afternoon and again for the Rolling Thunder ride on Sunday.

I think the businesses that host these visitors could do a bit of PR on our behalf to first let them know we appreciate that they are visiting and using our hotels/restaurants - but to be mindful of the purpose of their visit (honoring) and to respect those that live around the area.

Not to trample on those who just don't want to hear any of the noise associated with the weekend each year - I realize sleep is a prized commodity in this area - especially when you have children. I think working with local businesses can help make the experience positive for both locals and visitors. Still might want to look into planning a vacation next Memorial Day.

And I do realize and agree - there are some who come and completely disrespect both the purpose of their being here and the locals that endure their visit.

Trevor you are a dumbass. Can we move Rolling Thunder to your Hillbilly enclave near Russellville and leave peaceful folks alone to quietly celebrate Memorial Day?

Patriot said...

Agreed - Trevor if you like making noise so much do it in your own County - Dogpatch County Arkansas.

If you want piece and quite don't live where there's almost 8,000 people per square mile. Arlington is an urban area and might as well be a city instead of a county. There's a major airport nearby, tons of public safety vehicles, construction everywhere, and the occasional motorcade. It's not a quite place.

I live by one of the hotels being used by the Rolling Thunder guys so I was hearing their bikes all weekend but I never heard anything late at night as described by other people. If loud motorcycles driving through the area for one weekend a year is your biggest problem, you need to find other things to worry about. They're hear to honor the fallen, and should be allowed to do so.

Are they some of the same Tea Party creeps who were so obnoxious when they demonstrated here last year?

Memorial Day. It's about remembering and memorializing people who served in the Armed Forces and especially those who gave their lives for our nation.

How about changing Rolling Thunder from Memorial Day to Fourth of July?

Anonymous said...

Second the motion. Fourth of July in DC is a f-ing zoo already. How much worse can it get?

Yes, Comrade, we are Tea Party Patriots who are more than happy to blow you out of your beds with our Patriot Harleys when you are having sex with your gay and lesbian fellow socialists and communists.

Too much noise aready from aircraft.

We Patriots come from Flatwoods KY on our Harleys to tell you Socialists to get right with the Lord, to stop killing unborn babies, and stop having unnatural sex with your fellow gays and lesbians.

What's wrong with that?

Dave, which committee of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce do you serve on?

Palin in 2012 said...

Bob, the Chairman of the Arlington County Board of Gays and Lesbians is a Life Long Gay who wants to use $140 million of taxpayer dollars to build a huge Gay and Lesbian Bathhouse. He's gonna get the socialist sheeple to approve it too.

If I stopped one gay or lesbian from having sex with another gay or lesbian by waking them up at 1 AM, my trip north was wo4rth it.

Dave, one weekend of loud motorcycles a year? It's at least 6 weekends a year. Where do you live anyway?

Sandy said...

Yes, another thread please.

I enjoy a ride in the summer on a nice quiet bike or two with friends. I do not like the idea that I might be disrupting someone else's day as I pass by their home just as I appreciated the same in return. A large group of bikes will all ways be what it is, loud and rude, end of story.

Jeff said...

It's now 2017. Rolling Thunder is just as obnoxious. They would be history if it weren't for the local media ignoring their laundry list of bad behavior every year.
