Arlington Greens Considering a School Board Candidate

Hello, Yupette,

I attended the CivFed meeting this week and it appears that the Arlington Green party may have a candidate to run for Arlington School Board.

A Green on the school board would dare to question the energy inefficient construction in schools renewals. Good I say.

The Arlington School System will have to absorb 4,500 additional students over the next dacade. How much money will be available to do anything that's really "green?"

Answer: NONE. All the money will go for "relocatable" classrooms, teachers, administrators, furniture, books, etc.

Deja Vu 1950s, when I was a kid. No money for anything but the basics. Given the expected school population growth, the school system is exceedingly irresponsible to cater to the wants of the wealthy in North Arlington for more enrichment programs.

Rumored to be the first Green Yupette.

Green Yupette, is that an oxymoron or what?

Like the 1950s? Maybe so. In the 50s money was taken from segregated black schools and used to fund activities in white schools. Just like North Arlington and South Arlington today.

How did we get to the point where the new Wakefield High School will be short on classrooms when its opened but have a world class aquatics center?

Ask "Gentrification Jay" aka "Gourmet Jay" aka "Giveaway Jay" Fisette.

Fifteen years of Zimmerman, Fisette, and Favola - a dog park, live theater, and world class aquatic center in every neighborhood and a special program for every North Arlington student.

The present system of providing tax dollars for special educational programs is out and out discrimination. There is a huge outlay for a high school for science and technology. But my kid wants to be a fashion designer. How about her educational needs?

Agreed. It is TOTALLY OFFENSIVE AND ILLEGAL to fund one group's wants over the needs of everyone else.

If a sign were posted in front of TJ High School for Science and Technology that read "Whites Only" everyone would be outraged.

But in fact the sign in front says TJ is for "Science and Technology".

Why should that be any less offensive?

I say sue the school system in federal court for massive and pervasive discrimination based on wealth which amounts to de facto re-segregation of the Arlington School System.

The entire segregationist and re-segregationist process is de jure segregation, accomplished 100 years ago through specific legislation aimed at preserving racial segregation in Virginia. Today de jure re-segregation in Virginia is accomplished through the appropriations and economic development legal processes, both equally injurious to the civil rights of Virginians.

If the school population grows by 500 every year for the next decade what's left over for the kids in South Arlington after money is skimmed off the top for extravagant enrichment programs for the kids in North Arlington?

Did you see the Post yesterday. U.S. Department of Education is going after school systems for discrimination in special programs. How about TJ High School for Science and Technology, which is about 97% white and asian?

HedoCrat Sally Baird will be re-elected. The Yupscale parents in North Arlington love her.
