County Employees Perform Above and Beyond During Snow Emergency

Hello, Yupette.

I've been listening to the Arlington County radio dispatch frequencies on my old Radio Shack scanner (most of the action is now encrypted). County employees have performed above and beyond the call of duty in the snow emergency. How bad is it? The EMS crews needed snowplows to get into the dead end streets and cul de sacs to rescue people who were sick or injured and tehn carry them as far as 1/4 mile to a street where a snow plow and EMS vehicle were waiting. Power is out all over North Arlington and its really cold. This is as bad as the wind damage we had from near-miss hurricanes.

Too bad so many CITIZENS are behaving like JERKS. Police and fire-ems had to respond to many Fouth of July weekend type "incidents."

Arlington is one of two counties in Virginia with its own public works department, so heavy trucks were available for snow plowing for EMS vehicles.

Something has to be done about trees vs. power lines. One tree branch shouldn't cause an entire neighborhood to lose power. We should have (but apparently didn't) learn something from the last near-miss hurricanes.

Do yourselves a favor and don't go out to do anything in the snow without wearing a snowmobile suit, snowmobile gloves, and snowmobile boots.

Pretty pathetic when people partied during the storm, got drunk, got into fights, and called the cops.

How about a new thread - time for mandatory telecommuting for people who have non-sensitive jobs?

Streets are a mess. SUVs are getting stuck on side streets.

Wait until August, when Hurricane Marjorie comes right up the Chesapeake Bay
