County Board to Cut Public Infrastructure, Significantly Raise Taxes in FY 11 Budget

No surprise, the County Board decided to cut police, fire, and public infrastructure used by all or most Arlington residents while preserving special programs for wealthy special interests and the County Board's pet vanity projects.

Makes no sense. County's population is growing, we need more fire and EMS units.

Increase in population in Arlington since 2000 has been about 23,000 - about 12%.

WHY are fire units being cut?

So, despite a 23,000 increase in population over the past decade the County will cut core services? Really pathetic.

We are all Urban Village Idiots when it comes to re-electing the County Board.

Ever notice how the local media conspire to preserve the status quo, no matter what the consequences?

The County Board is proposing a huge increase in fees to fund its vanity projects. Like $40 for an overtime parking ticket.

Next County Board meeting is February 20th at 8:30 AM.

It's bipartisan.

Wayne Kubicki was especially clueless. Question was not how much Arlington should be paying to send kids to Tj, but whether, given TJ's vast resources, Arlington should be paying anything.

Police and fire-ems will be cut to 1996 levels - when Arlington's population was 30,000 less than today.

The $$$ that will be collected from fines from overtime parking will exceed the revenue from parking meters.
