Arlington's High School Drop Out Rate "Appalling"

Despite the Arlington County School System spending over $500 million dollars this fiscal year to educate 20,000 children only 68.9% of Latino students finish high school in 4 years versus 96.4% of white students. Wakefield High School is such a mess that Arlington Democrats brought President Obama to Wakefield telling students to stay in school. What should Arlington be doing to solve its drop-out problem?

Arlington Competing for Another Expensive and Meaningless Award

According to press releases from Arlington County's PR Team, Arlington is competing in an expensive contest to win a prestigious award sponsored by the Intelligent Community Forum, a non-profit whose officers are also involved in expensive broadband consulting ventures with the same municipalities that compete for the award. According to County Staff, competing for the Intelligent Communities Award has so far cost Arlington taxpayers at least $100,000. Contestants that have "won" the award in the USA are typically economically depressed urban areas whose elected officials are desperate for economic development.
