President to Deliver 'Stay in School' Speech at Obsolete and Deteriorating Arlington High School

On September 8th President Obama will make an important "stay in school" speech at Arlington's shabby and deteriorating Wakefield High School.

The real controversy about President Obama's speech should not be about his speech. It should be about why President Obama chose to give his speech at a high school that has become the epitome of a two-tiered system, the best schools for the haves and the worst for the have-nots, 55-years after Brown vs. Board of Education.

Dear President Obama:

While you are at Wakefield High School please ask Arlington's elected leaders why all of the high schools in Arlington's wealthy neighborhoods are modern and focus on enrichment while Wakefield is old, shabby, obsolete and the curriculum is remediation-based.

I don't hear any of Arlington's wealthy Republicans whose kids attend brand new high schools complaining about Wakefield. So both the Country Club Republicans and the Limo Liberals go along with the program - which is wealthy kids get brand new gold plated high schools and poor kids get a shabby dump of a school.

FYI, President Obama graduated from an elite private school in Hawaii, then attended an elite college in California for a year before graduating from Columbia University. He than attended and graduated from Harvard Law School. His daughters attend an elite private school in D.C.

Does President Obama plan to address Wakefield students in Spanish? Latinos are the majority of Wakefield drop-outs.

Mr. President: Our local Democratic political leaders are only interested in funding entertainment and recreation projects. Can we have $100 million in stimulus funding, as soon as possible, to replace our shabby middle class high school?

When you post in the blog about the selfish and greedy "yupublicrats" you are exactly right. This county is run by and for wealthy yuppies. Republican, Democrat, gay, straight, bisexual. Local media totally support the status quo. Consequently we get an unwanted and unneeded tourist trolley that will cost $150-$250 million before we get a badly needed new high school. I would organize a demonstration on Tuesday at Wakefield with other fed-up parents but I am sure I and the other demonstrators would be moved 1/2 mile from the school and we would be put on a Secret Squirrel "threat list."

The Obamas are classic Yuppies. Like the Arlington County Board and Arlington School Board. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living on another planet.

Heads Up: There will be massive traffic congestion in South Arlington / Skyline / Alexandria on Tuesday.

No one asked us about this event. The school board and county board members don't live anywhere near Wakefield HS. Why wasn't this event scheduled at the brand new gold-plated W & L HS?

I wonder how many green activists' homes in Arlington were broken into and searched by the feds when no one was at home over the past week?

22204 said...

Not as many as when Bush was President.

Eric Holder told the FBI to knock off turning on lights, opening closet doors, peeing in toilets, etc. when conducting warrantless searches of activists' and Muslims' homes, which is something that Gonzalez and Cheney started.

Yuppette, if you carefully read between the lines of Sen. Russ Feingold's statements regarding the Patriot Act you will be angry, disgusted, and appalled.

I wonder how the Obamas would like it if several really prominent celebrities, like Oprah, showed up at their daughters' school on September 8th to kick off National Teen Anti-Obesity Day?

Duh, more Urban Village Idiocy at work. Arlington's Yupublican Elitists would rather bring in Obama to make a speech at a run-down high school against dropping out of school than spend the same amount of money hiring expert consultants who will prevent high school kids from dropping out of school.

Anyone else noticed that when it comes to actually doing something, rather than forever talking about doing something, the Republicrats are all talk and no action?

Republicrats Suck said...

The Republicans mean to "do something" all right. The something they mean to do is to sell Virginia to their lowest campaign contributor bidders.

People, don't even THINK about driving anywhere within 5 miles of Wakefield H.S, on September 8th.

I wonder how much this speech will cost Arlington? The County is still waiting to be reimbursed $334,000 from the feds for costs incurred during Inauguration week. I thought we were in a budget crunch.

Based on what occurs when VIPs visit Shirlington Village cell phones will be blanked out for a mile around Wakefield HS on Tuesday.

This Progressive Wakefield parent has had it with the ongoing garbage in the Arlington School system and with the Bush III (Obama) Administration. My kid is going to be too ill to attend school on Tuesday.

The big traffic jam at Wakefield on Tuesday will be the result of several hundred parents who live in Fairfax County driving their kids to Wakefield the first day of school. Another taxpayer rip-off that goes unreported.

You are correct - Obama is George the Third.

This event is nothing but more of the same de facto segregation that's been the norm in the U.S. suburbs for the past 50 years. It's particularly offensive in Arlington, where the middle class is being gentrified out by elite racists who are creating a upscale whites-only Neverland for themselves using public funding.

What do teens who drop out of school in Arlington do? Clean the homes of the Obamas' fellow Ivy League Elitists. Landscape the estates of the Obamas' fellow Ivy League Elitists. Wash dishes and bus tables in the restaurants frequented by the Obamas' fellow Ivy League Elitists. Work for the minimum wage in boutiques where the OIbamas' fellow Ivy League Elitists shop. Yuppie Elitists require lots of drop outs to support their Yuscale lifestyle.

It's worse than that, Yupette. People in southern Virginia where the unemployment rate is 20% are being taxed to pay for events like this. And their kids are dropping out of school at 17 to join the military because there are no jobs and parents are divorced and their fathers are paying a hundred a month in child support. The kids have a choice of starving at home or joining the military and having enough to eat. When will President Obama visit a school in southern Virginia?

President Obama's parents were Elitists. He was a poor student and was admitted to Occidental and later to Columbia based on his mother's many connections in academia.

Mr. President, the U.S. warfighting machine needs 17 year old dropouts for Afghanistan.

I am sure the military recruiters will applaud President Obama's speech.

Read President Obama's autobiography. Then read his Wakefield H.S. speech. Reality check.

Yes, President Obama and his fellow Harvard Law School grads, Tim Kaine and Anne Holton, Mark Warner, John Roberts, etc., spend their weekends cleaning their homes, mowing their lawns, and preparing their own meals rather than dine at expensive restaurants.

How about the Pro-Lifers who promote young women having unwanted kids and then abandon the young women and their kids to a lifetime of poverty?

Anonymous said...

How about the kids in economically devastated cities and counties who don't go into the military but get into using and selling drugs, burglary, auto theft, and so on? How much longer are the Republicrats going to tell 16-year olds in places like Martinsville to "take personal responsibility"?

Anonymous said...

Obama had an outta-here mother and runaway father. He didn't take personal responsibility when he was 16, his grandparents did.

Jose' Wakefield H.S. 2002 said...

How many of the kids who will drop out of Wakefield this school year understand enough English to be able to understand what President Obama is saying?

We have been receiving immigrants from Central America for over 30 years and the response of our school system to this continuing drop-out problem is to tell 16-year olds with poor English comprehension and reading skills in a de facto segregated school system to "take personal responsibility".

Westmoreland said...

"Take Personal Responsibility." That's the Neo-Con Mantra for every longstanding social and economic problem, isn't it?

Peter, T.C. Williams H.S., Alexandria said...

My parents took me out of the segregated south Arlington school system by moving from a home in south Arlington to a home in Alexandria, where all the kids of high school age attend one brand new high school.

Maria said...

I dropped out of Wakefield to help my mother clean homes. Wakefield is not a good school, they get rid of slow learners like me by not caring if we drop out or not. Latinos and Latinas are 2nd class citizens here and also the Yuppies want us all to move out of Arlington. This is one of the major reasons for the HOT lanes and more lanes on the interstates.

No way my kid will ever attend Wakefield said...

President Obama, ask the Democrats who run the Arlington school system why so many parents move out of South Arlington or send their kids to private and parochial high schools rather than have their kids attend Wakefield.

Denise said...

Military recruiters are always bothering kids at Wakefield. I was struggling because my parents were getting a divorce and a guidance counselor asked me if I thought of dropping out and joining the armed forces.

Elitism? Tipper Gore wanted nothing whatever to do with south Arlington schools during the 20 years she and Al lived in south Arlington before Al was elected VP.

How many people are employed by the Arlington school system to schedule feel-good events and write propaganda in support of the events?

FBI Guy said...

We still go into peoples homes without warrants whenever we want. We just leave little clues we were there. tinkle tinkle.

Same Neo-Nazi FBI that allows Pro-Life low lifes to terrorize women seeking family planning services at Planned Parenthood.

Speaking of FBI Guys, I wonder how many long-time married Arlington pols lives-alone and never-married FBI Guy John Antonelli will go after for adultery, spousal abuse, etc., in Antonelli's next Jane Barcroft fantasy novel?

The FBI aids and abets domestic terrorism carried out by Pro-Life. Pro-Life would never be able to get away with their terrorism if the FBI weren't assisting.
