Big Real Estate Tax Increase Next Year?

Yupette, take a look at the consent agenda items for the September 26th County Board meeting. Looks to me like the County Board will increase spending while increasing real estate taxes by 5 percent or 6 percent. Dennis

I think they will cut a few programs increase spending on a few programs and cover any budget deficit with a tax increase.

Maybe the County Board feels, what the heck, a $400 tax increase for John and Jane Barcroft is an evening out in Shirlington taking in a revival of Sweeney Todd at the Signature.

You Americans are crazy. You help everyone else in the World except yourselves. You call efforts to help Americans in need "socialism" and keep spending money to the Middle East for fight wars. Then you wonder there is no money left to solve your own problems.

Yes, there will be a big real estate tax increase next year. The County isn't going to spend hundreds of thousands to create new ART bus routes only to suspend service. Same for the County Board's pet recreation and entertainment special interests.

Yes, Americans are crazy. They want to be the world's police force. The population of the USA has grown by 60 million in 20 years. There is little new infrastructure for this population increase. Their health care system is a mess. They have a transportation system based on every household owning 3-4 vehicles. Their land use is appalling. Any attempt to make modest improvements is branded "socialism."

Did you see CNN today? Major tsunami devastation in AMERICAN Samoa. And the focus of the AMERICAN government is on Afghanistan.

Anon. the U.S. can't afford to re-direct military forces that are assisting everyone else in the world to help Americans who have been devastated by a natural disaster. President Obama is using "tough love" on the Samoans. The Neo-Cons are telling the Samoans to "take personal responsibility". Nothing much has changed since Katrina.

I don't see a lot being done for American Samoa by anyone in the USA outside American Samoa.

Make American Samoa a province in Afghanistan. Help will arrive quickly.

Does anyone know the extent of the County Treasurer's employees calling senior citizens and scaring them into paying their taxes early?

American Samoa is getting about as much assistance as the Bahamas would receive from the USA if a big hurricane hit the Bahamas.

Meanwhile President Obama is occupied with Iran and Afghanistan. Michelle Obama is preoccupied with bringing the Olympics to Chicago. Republicans think American Samoa is a cool hedo hangout.

Yes, there will be a big tax increase next year. Last weekend the County Board of Entertainment and Recreation voted for a huge open-ended commitment to build a park along Four Mile Run between Shirlington and the Potomac.

Yeah, like $200 million.

How about the $10 million the County Board voted for Founders Square? Latest Yuppie, Gen X, Gen Y, Gen Z zoo. Yes, Zimmerman is BOTH an Urban Village Idiot and a Guru of Gridlock.

County Board's Web site is messed up and it's taking them forever to fix it. How many County employees are involved with the Internet?

We're 3 months into the fiscal year and so far all I see is the same or more spending by the County Board.

I see the County Board spending $1 billion on sports, recreation, and entertainment infrastructure over the next decade.

County Board has to create Yuppie Party Zones so the Yups who live in the new expensive condos and apartments will have a place to party.

I would like to know how many millions it will cost to underground the high voltage power lines along Four Mile Run.
