Hey, I am from Brazil and I read your Blog and I now can understand why the USA is a mess.

Not to be outdone by Tim "Hot Lanes" Kaine, Bob McDonnell wants to sell the state to his corporate buds. Want to see where that will take us look at what Jeb Bush did to Florida.

Hello, Ms. Yupette, I live in Toronto and read your blog. The problem with the USA is that you are both polarized and gridlocked by liberal and conservative ideology and you also are the third world's police force at tremendous expense. Over the past 60 years the USA spent $1 trillion on Korea, $1 trillion on Vietnam, and is close to spending $1 trillion on Iraq and Afghanistan. Your diplomacy is terrible. Your political leadership are mostly cowboys. You have large population that is rapidly growing, but you are taking care of everyone else's problems. You are a nation of 310 million but have the public infrastructure for 275 million. When you spend $3 billion on buying old clunkers from Americans it is deemed to be extravagant spending, and the beneficiaries of the program, Toyota, respond by closing an auto plant that produces Toyota Corollas in the USA. The worst part of the USA is the media which tolerate and encourage cowboy capitalisn, cowboy diplomacy, cowboy military operations, etc.

Dawn, the worst part of the American political system is there are no alternatives but more of the same. American media ignore any alternatives not proposed by the two political parties.

Why bother attending? No matter how well third party or independent candidates do in these forums they are ignored by the media. The Sun Gazette is the worst, but the Post isn't far behind.

BTW, there are 4 major political parties in Canada, and Independents are also elected to the House of Commons.

American Media LOVE Cowboys.

Bob McDonnell would be worse than Jeb Bush. Jeb Bush never tried to criminalize birth control.

Hi Yupette,

There were as many candidates and campaign staff as CivFed delegates at the CivFed meeting. The Yupublican canddiates were more of the same Bush-Cheney neo-con garbage that got us into this recession. It's obvious that McDonnell is a radical pro-Life neo-con. Yupubs support McDonnell. Just what we don't need. McCaffrey was talking to his fellow Jane Barcroft novel characters. Green Party candidates did well. So did the Dems.

Same Republicans who disrupted Moran's healthcare forum would not allow their candidates to answer questions before and after the CivFed meeting. What else is new with the Republican Party?

At 02 September, 2009 , Anonymous Don said...

I was correct. Republicans made no secret about wanting to sell Virginia to corporations.

At 02 September, 2009 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's really pathetic when Green Party candidates are fiscally responsible and the Yupublicrats are either tax-and-spend or wanting to sell the state's assets to balance the state's budget.

"Charade" is correct. Last night it was the Bush-Cheney Neo-Cons vs. the Limo Liberals. Only common sense was displayed by the Green Party.

NO way I will vote for Jay. Fisette wants to make Arlington into Neverland. And drive everyone who doesn't have a minimum household income of $150,000 / year out.

As was mentioned before there is little doubt that McDonnell and the Neo-Con Repubs want to sell Virginia to Repub corporate campaign contributors

The lack of common sense from both major parties is appalling. Can someone from either party please acknowledge that Virginia's population grows by 100,000 per year and so 1 million persons are added to Virginia's population every decade? And so increased spending for transportation, education, health care, and other services is a necessity, not an extravagance?

Insofar as I can determine the difference between the Dems and Repubs is the Dems want to sell some of Virginia to their campaign contributors and the Repubs want to sell all of Virginia to their campaign contributors.

How about Young Creepublicans for General Assembly who want to make local interstates into 12 lane expressways thru Arlington to DC. Aided and abetted by the local chamber of commerce-dominated newspapers.

Latest group of Yupublicans running for state office were recruited by Mike "Got Beer?" Lane.

But the Post has McDonnell pegged exactly right - a super neo-con who's so wacky he'd criminalize birth control if he could.

At 03 September, 2009 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dawn, the Bush Lite Administration already spent $1 trillion this year on bailing out Republican corporations and funding the Republican wars.

Wacky? Chamber of Commerce-dominated newspaper? Read Scott McCaffrey's blog lately?

This is the first candidate forum I've seen where a local newspaper rated candidates based on grammatical correctness and body language.

An African-American at the White House who was responsible for getting green jobs into the economy was just fired for being too critical of the Republicans.

Obama is a Yuppiecratic wuse.

People are bitching because a single-payer health insurance system would cost $100 billion a year? Look at what we're already paying $300 billion a year for - Iraq and Afghanistan. Same stupid neo cons want to continue teh F22 fighter program, start more wars in the third world. and otherwise piss away $500 billion a year.

What neo-cons badly want is another war in the Third World to follow the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
