Kaine, VDOT, Arlington, Alexandria Pushing 395 HOT Lanes

The Kaine Administration and VDOT are seeking to overcome the seemingly intractable resistance of neighborhood residents in neighborhoods that adjoin I-395. Elected officials in both Alexandria and Arlington have privately indicated to the Kaine Administration that they have no serious issues with HOT Lanes on 395. Elected officials in Arlington and Alexandria are working with "community leaders" to persuade residents to accept inadequate noise mitigation. In return the "community leaders" have been promised they will be appointed and reappointed to various state and local advisory bodies.

Yes, it's true. Fairlington's nanny nancy 'community leaders' are pushing Fairlington residents to accept HOT lanes provided a 25 foot sound barrier is constructed. That is total bull$#!+ because VDOT's own engineers estimate a 70 foot sound barrier would be needed. Want to see what a 70 foot sound barrier looks like? Drive to the inner loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road where HOT lanes are being constructed.

Assuming that noise were not a problem what about traffic congestion and air pollution?

But all the 'community leaders' are concerned about is micro-managing everyone elses life according to Government Specifications. In return they are appointed to the planning commission, traffic calming commission, and soon-to-be decided state government advisory groups.

Fairlington is an historic residential community, not a cut through to the 395 parking lot.

HOT lanes - foreign corporation gets the goldmine, we get the shaft. I won't be voting for incumbents this year if HOT lanes are approved on 395.

Several of Fairlington's "community leaders" just received street repaving in return for being good ward heelers and precinct chairs.

Arlington County Board meets September 26th at 8:30 AM.

Alexandria City Council meets September 13th at 9:30 AM

If you are as disgusted as almost all residents who live adjacent to I-395 about getting the run-around from state and local government regarding HOT lanes, attend one or both of these meetings and say so.

HOT Lanes on 395 are too much a threat to our quality of life to allow the nanny nancys who mickey moused Shirlington redevelopment for a decade to represent us.

Yeah, fifteen years ago Marylanders paid a lot of money for a "faster commute" to Annapolis and Germantown along Rt 50 and I-270. Look where they are at rush hours today.

Tim Kaine's regular home in Richmond is near 3 interstates and he loves to drive his pickup truck. Three guesses how he'll commute to DNC Headquarters when he's no longer Governor.

OK. Tim will hang around the Richmond AMTRAK station for 2 hours waiting for usually-delayed AMTRAK train to DC to arrive?

Hmmmm. I guess that Tim Kaine will drive his pick-up truck from Richmond to Fredericksburg and get on the VRE train to DC.

Tim Kaine will do what every red blooded NASCAR-loving Virginian does: get up at 5:30 AM, get in his pick-up by 6:15 AM and drive like hell until he reaches DC at 8:00 AM.

The so-called "community leaders" will say and do anything to be appointed and re-appointed to the advisory committees where they can micro-manage our lives according to the County Board's, City Council's, VDOT's etc., respective agendas.
