Jay Fisette Aquatic Center - Same Cultural Center Script, Different Cast?

According to "County Staff" the Jay Fisette Aquatic Center to be built at the new Longbridge Park is being fast-tracked for a bond referendum in 2011 with the same welfare-for-the-wealthy approval process as just occurred for the Jay Fisette Rosslyn Cultural Center.

Wealthy private pool clubs and country clubs will run the aquatic center.

Difference is that it will be a bond referendum and the wealthy pool clubbers and country clubbers will show up at meetings wearing aqua colored T-shirts.

This County and its elected officials SUCK. I live on Westmoreland Blvd. between Glebe and Old Dominion. Our street is nothing but broken asphalt. Fisette is the worst of a rotten gay and lesbian bunch who only think about themselves, their health, their recreation, their entertainment. Oh yes, and reporting "suspicious behavior" to the police.

The exclusive pool clubs want exactly the same deal the theater crowd received. Fisette has repeatedly promised that the pool clubs would be in charge of the aquatics center.

Another done deal, unfortunately.

When do my kids get a new high school to replace Wakefield? When they are in college? I will not vote for any Arlington incumbent. It is also time for a new newspaper like the Alexandria Times to begin publishing in Arlington. I am disgusted with the Sun Gazette, which is all about real estate, sports, entertainment, and recreation. And supporting the County Board of Recreation and Entertainment.

Time for Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey to move on, to a staff PR position with the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors.

The country clubs and pool clubs are incredibly elitist.

According to County press releases, Fisette is going to be part of a PR event, an auction benefiting one of Fisette's shill non-profits for "affordable housing" which he despises.

I sent an e-mail to the Fairfax Times asking if it's possible for them to publish an Arlington Edition.

I'm glad someone in this comment thread expressed a desire for better press coverage in Arlington. I'm organizing a meeting of independent bloggers who report Arlington news--the idea is to discuss possible collaboration, aggregation, or other ideas that might strengthen the reporting that goes on here.

The meeting will take place at Arlington Independent Media, our local public access TV station. I'd like to invite the Arlington Yupette, but I don't see an e-mail address on this site.

Ms. Yupette, please send me an e-mail at maurice@mauricemartin.net -- I'll send you an invitation. Would love to have you there!

Arlington Independent Media? A total oxymoron. About 60% of their funding comes from Arlington County.

Don't do it Yupette. Don't get entangled with the slimy skanks at AVN, AIM, and the PR Crewe in the County Manager's Office.

Now that the County Board's First Flunky, Scott McCaffrey, and his insipid newspaper, the Sun Fisette, are going to be history the County Board wants to take over Arlington's independent blogs.

Maurice you f'ing low life, I'll BET you want to meet Yupette and the other Arlington independent bloggers. Like a f'ing fox wants to meet the neighborhood chickens.

Hey, what's the problem? I don't have the leisure to participate in improving news reporting in Arlington -- much as I feel like a lot of stuff is falling by the wayside. Yupette seems to post and host a lot of things I don't find elsewhere, that's why I dro in here, so what's to lose by going to a community news powwow? I vote she goes, don't drag it down.

Just to clarify a few things:

1) I am not a county employee. I’ve been involved with AIM for many years—for awhile I was a talk show host and now I serve on the board of directors—but both of those are volunteer positions. I and about a dozen other Arlington citizens volunteer our time to serve on the AIM Board because we believe in the mission of the organization, which is to “promote and facilitate free speech by providing access to established and emerging media.”

2) AIM funding comes from franchising fees that cable and teleco companies pay to the county in exchange for right-of-way (the right to string cables from county-owned utility poles, etc.)

3) AIM is not interested in taking over anyone’s blog. That would be counter to our mission. AIM provides facilities for citizens to create their own TV shows and a cable channel for them to distribute those shows. AIM doesn’t control the content of those programs, or try to “take them over.” Likewise, AIM will not be “taking over” anyone’s blog.

Here’s one example of a program produced at AIM by local volunteers: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/16/AR2009061603879.html

I invite all of you to come by the AIM offices and talk to the Arlington citizens who go to the station to learn the tools of media production and/or produce their own programs. If any of them tell you that they’ve been coerced, censored, or in any way had their free speech limited by the staff of AIM, please let me know. I’ve never heard anyone say that. I think what you’ll find is that they appreciate having a place where they can make their voices heard.

AIM’s web site is here: http://www.arlingtonmedia.org

Yeah, I had an invitation like that once. The nanny nancys who control my civic association had the Arlington Police attend the meeting.

What a crock, you can see AIM's "don't worry be happy, the County Board knows what's best for you" day in and day out on the Sun Gazette blog.

What is AIM anyway, but more yupscale gentrification propaganda? We are inundated with that already and don't need any more.

If they were really really interested in improving news reporting they would invite a really good local newspaper chain to start an Arlington weekly newspaper.

O course, that would mean features and reporting critical of the status quo. Can't have that in the Smart Growth Urban Village.

Take a look at who's on AIM's Board of Directors.

Hey, Maurice, how about AIM producing a video titled "Robbin' Hood" with Giveaway Jay starring as Robbin and the wealthy live theater groups playing the Hoods?

At 09 August, 2009 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

NOW the Washington Shakespeare Company wants to start a $300,000 fundraiser? Why stop at $300,0000? The wealthy members of this theater group spend $10,000 a year on gourmet dog food.

Jay Fisette and his domestic partner have made so much money from Jay's activities while on the CB that Jay and his domestic partner could have easily written a check for $10 million to cover the cost of the cultural center.

The live theater groupies are worth $$$ billions. AIM is in-tight with the live theater crowd.

Next thing we will be seeing on AIM is infomercials for a $150 million aquatic center featuring the "recreationally deprived" children of Arlington's limo liberals and country club republicans.
