County Board Spends Extravagantly on Self-Serving PR

The Arlington County Manager's Office alone employs 15 people who write and broadcast PR for County Board members and the Board's pet people, pet organizations and pet programs. Cost to Arlington taxpayers? At least $1.3 million.

Yupette, there are two persons employed by the Department of Libraries who churn out PR on the County's Web pages.

Yupette, don't forget Arlington Independent Media, the County-funded operator of Arlington's public-access TV station. I believe their budget is about $500,000.

Also, there are employees in Parks, Recreation, and Community Resources who write PR and there is the so-called Emergency Broadcast Station at the top of AM radio band that broadcasts continuous County Board propagands.

Can anyone come up with who in Arlington County Government provides what in the way of PR and propaganda and what's the cost to the taxpayers?

Don't ask the Arlington Yupublican Party or ACTA (Arlington's Clueless Taxophobic Agonists).

How about: Arlington County Taxes Anything?

Appears that another 10 County employees who write and broadcast PR are scattered around 6 other County departments. So appears about 25 County employees are involved in producing and broadcasting PR and total cost to the taxpayers for all the PR is about $2.5 million.

Including propaganda broadcasts via HDTV in the lobby and elsewhere at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.

How much did the HDTVs cost us taxpayers?

The FY 2010 PR budget for the County Manager's Office alone is just over $1.5 million.

However, there are other County employees who do PR activities and work in various departments. Maybe another $500,000 for them. And Arlington Independent Media, another $500,000.

Arlington "Independent" Media; cost to taxpayers for this taxpayer-funded cable TV quasi-PR activity will be almost $600,000 in FY 2010.

Don't even THINK of producing a video on AIM that's in the least critical of the status quo in Arlington.

Want to make big $$$ with little or no work? Produce a full-length video on AIM titled "Wonderful Arlington" starring the Arlington County Board.

County Board appoints 3 board members to AIM's board of directors. Rest of AIM's board members are County Board's pet people. Independent? LOL.
